Stranger Things is an American sci-fi horror drama that is probably the biggest thing to come out of Netflix. Created by the Duffer Brothers, the first season of the show managed to become the third most-watched season of Netflix original content in the U.S. at the time, behind the first season of Fuller House and the fourth season of Orange Is the New Black

With generally favorable reviews, the show has been going strong since 2016 and now Netflix has even announced a fifth and final season of Stranger Things. Many want to know who will be coming back for one last stint on their favorite show and who will not make it. There is already one star who has confirmed so far that he will not be returning in the final season.

‘I never got a phone call’: Eduardo Franco confirms that will not be in Stranger Things Season 5

Stranger Things is officially back in production for its final season after struggling to shoot due to WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. The show’s official X (formerly Twitter) account posted a black-and-white photo of the returning cast with the caption:

“THIS IS A CODE RED STRANGER THINGS 5 production has officially begun!!!”

Speaking of returning cast members, there is one cast member who has confirmed that he is definitely not returning for the final run of the iconic show. The star is none other than Eduardo Franco, who played Argyle in Season 4. In an interview with Steve Varley, a YouTube film and TV critic, Franco was asked about the shared picture of the cast where he was absent and whether he would make an appearance in the upcoming season.

“It’s nice to hear that there’s, there’s some sort of, you know, concern or something, you know what I mean? But I never got a phone call, so I think that’s it.”

Franco’s character Argyle was introduced in Season 4, where he often supplied comedic relief in contrast to his serious counterpart Jonathan Bryers, played by Charlie Heaton. Many fans are arguing that the character should be given at least one episode to be written off the show properly since Argyle became a fan favorite in very little time. However, Netflix has yet to comment on that.

Netizens scream “boycott Stranger Things” online due to Noah Schnapp Zionism controversy

Soon after Stranger Things’ official Instagram made the announcement that season 5 was in the works, netizens took to X (formerly Twitter) and raised their objections to the show, including Noah Schnapp, who previously made pro-Israel comments in reference to the Israel-Hamas humanitarian crisis.

Noah Schnapp found himself in hot waters back in November 2023 when an Instagram story video of him surfaced online (via. Pop Crave) where he was seen laughing with his friends who held up stickers like “Zionism is sexy” and “Hamas is ISIS.” Needless to say, the absolute tone-deafness did not sit well with the fans who called him out on his behavior.

It remains to be seen how the showrunners address this rage and materialize season 5.
