Actress Barbra Streisand was announced as the recipient of the SAG Life Achievement Award back in December 2023. The male actors in HBO’s Succession ended up dominating the Best Male Actor in Drama Series nominations, something fans are not happy about. Let’s find out.
Succession men dominate the Best Male Actor in Drama Series at the SAG Awards 2024
HBO’s Succession is one of the most highly talked about shows created by Jesse Armstrong starring Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong, Sarah Snook, Kieran Culkin, and Matthew Macfadyen, among others. The satirical-comedy drama show received critical acclaim from critics as well as viewers since its first season, which premiered in 2018. The series was brought to its conclusion in May 2023.
The audience and critics both praised the actors for their brilliant and impactful performances throughout the four seasons of the series. Back in 2019, executive producer Frank Rich in an interview with Town & Country shared that the family on which the show is based; the Murdoch family, also found the show interesting.
Fan favorite actors Brian Cox who played Logan Roy, Kieran Culkin who played Roman Roy, and Matthew Macfadyen who played Tom Wambsgans, have all been nominated for the SAG Awards 2024. The actors are nominated under the category of Best Male Actor in Drama Series leaving two spots for Pedro Pascal for Joel from The Last of Us and Billy Crudup as Cory Ellison for The Morning Show.
Succession recently won Best Drama Series at the 81st Golden Globe Awards and the creator said,
“Thank you very much indeed. So it’s been said, but it’s a team effort this show, which is one of the reasons it’s so lovely to do. And I would like to accept this on behalf of the whole Succession writers room, the directors led by Mark Mylod, my fellow producers, the extraordinary subtle and supple cast and the crew who have worked so dedicatedly and brilliantly on four seasons of the show.”
Kieran Culkin won the Golden Globe for Best Male Actor in a television series-drama with Sarah Snook taking the Best Actress category and Macfadyen for Best TV Supporting Actor. Talking about the SAG Awards, Pascal and Crudup’s performance in their respective show had gained a lot of attention but was always going to be hard to reach the level that Succession got to.

Succession’s Jeremy Strong’s snub at SAG Awards 2024 disappoints fans
Actor Jeremy Strong as Kendall Roy delivered an impactful performance throughout the four seasons. The critics as well as the audience appreciated the actor for having a strong screen presence. However, Strong did not receive any nomination for the SAG Awards 2024.
A fan tweeted that nominating Brian Cox over Jeremy Strong who happens to be the lead of the show is perhaps the most bizarre thing viewers had to witness. Fans took to point out that Strong’s portrayal of Kendall Roy has been one of his strongest works consistently completely disagreed with the lack of a nomination.
Talking about playing the character, Strong for his 2021 New Yorker profile shared,
“I want every scene to feel like I’m encountering a bear in the woods. I don’t know how popular the way I work is amongst our troupe.”
Succession is streaming on HBO.
