Oppenheimer, the highly anticipated film by Christopher Nolan, hit theaters on July 21. The film has created a buzz around the world and has brought Cillian Murphy into the limelight. The actor played the lead role of theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, the man who made the most powerful weapon in the world. Murphy’s brilliant performance in the sci-fi thriller is making waves for his first Oscar at next year’s Academy Awards.

However, the Irish actor is recently making headlines as he is considered to play another iconic role in a leading franchise. The James Bond franchise, headed by Daniel Craig for years, is looking for an ideal performer to play the illustrious British spy. The names of Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Henry Cavill popped up as they were leading candidates to join the spy franchise. But it looks like the success of Oppenheimer has brought Cillian Murphy into the race to become the new James Bond.

Cillian Murphy is in the headlines after the release of Oppenheimer. The film helmed by Christopher Nolan is performing brilliantly at the box office. Murphy, who plays J. Robert Oppenheimer in the film, is receiving praise from fans and critics. The actor is also a contender for next year’s Oscars.

Not just this, the Irish actor has shot to the top of the bookie’s list to replace Daniel Craig as the next James Bond. Craig depart from the legendary role of James Bond after No Time to Die, which came out in 2021. Since then, the seat of James Bond in Hollywood is empty. There has been a serious race going on between actors to land the lead role in the spy franchise.

At the moment, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Henry Cavill are the betting favorites to land the role. However, the success of the epic biopic Oppenheimer has put the Peaky Blinders star ahead of the DC star. Murphy’s odds of becoming the next Bond have been reduced from 14/1 to 5/1 over the weekend.

Lawrence Lyons, a spokesperson for BoyleSports, said,

“There’s been an explosion of interest in Cillian Murphy becoming the next James Bond following his portrayal as J Robert Oppenheimer. This is one gamble we’re happy to see as it would be fantastic to see another Irish man step into the famous spy’s shoes!”

The Irish actor has pushed Cavill behind as he was the lead contender to land the role. The Superman actor almost lost the role of James Bond to Craig in 2006’s Casino Royale. As the praise for Cillian Murphy’s role in Oppenheimer continues, there are chances that the DC star might lose the role for the second time.
