“No one’s spoken to me”: 1 Original Avenger is Out of Secret Wars
Chris Evans set Marvel fans abuzz by revealing no one has contacted him about rumored plans to reunite the original Avengers cast for an epic comeback. Appearing on The View to promote his partnership with pet food brand Jinx, Evans was asked point blank about recent speculation that Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, and other OG heroes may join forces once more.
Would Chris Evans Consider Returning to Avengers: Secret Wars?
“You know, I always see those reports too, and it’s news to me,” a chuckling Chris Evans admitted.
But while confirming none of his former co-stars nor Marvel themselves have reached out, the actor left the door open for Captain America to potentially wield his shield again under the right circumstances.
According to The Wrap, Chris Evans may not have insider intel, but the beloved Marvel icon did state he would never completely rule out reprising his star-spangled role down the line.
“No one’s spoken to me about it… And look, I would never say never, but I really — I’m very protective. It’s a very precious role to me, so it would have to be just right,” Evans said.

He opened up about suiting back up if the perfect storyline entices Captain America out of retirement from the Avengers.
Still, Chris Evans did emphasize he remains “very protective” over Steve Rogers’ legacy after Avengers: Endgame seemingly closed the book on this chapter. So while Captain America living on through Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson presumably releases some pressure for Evans, he still wants to ensure any return aligns creative-wise before wielding the shield once more.
What Might Lure Chris Evans Back?
Considering Chris Evans has previously hinted more stories could be told for Steve Rogers, perhaps a Disney+ limited series focused on Captain America’s past or alt-universe adventures might offer the kind of fresh narrative territory to entice the star back for one more round. And given Marvel’s willingness to lure stars out of IP retirement before, fans likely haven’t seen the last of Evans in a Marvel project yet.
For now, a high-profile Original Six Avengers reunion remains simply enthusiastic speculation without Evans himself receiving the Marvel call. But if the right multiverse-spanning crisis or a trip down memory lane comes along requiring Captain America’s leadership, here’s betting the actor would have a hard time turning down the chance to suit up among Iron Man, Thor, and the rest of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes one more time.
