The film director, Daniel Kwan, and Daniel Scheinert who are popularly known as The Daniels in a 2022 interview with Vulture gave an insight on the then-new film, Everything Everywhere All at Once.
Opening up about their take on the multiverse which is the core of the film, Scheinert opened up about researching the concept as early as 2010 after he watched the documentary Sherman’s March.
Kwan further explained the latter’s insight by sharing,
“The multiverse became a vessel for us to point at infinity in a way that most other premises probably wouldn’t allow for.”
As their interest in science fiction began to grow stronger, they got worried when Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse film hit theatres.
“Then, as we were working on the movie, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse came out. It was a little upsetting because we were like, ‘Oh shit, everyone’s going to beat us to this thing we’ve been working on.’”
While they felt a bit intimidated by the Marvel movie, they continued to polish their concept and brought a multiverse that ended up bagging the most Oscars of this year.
