Oscars 2024 Full Nomination List: Oppenheimer Beats Margot Robbie’s Barbie
The 96th Academy Awards presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is expected to take place on March 10th, 2024 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California. The nominations were announced on Tuesday with Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer dominating the list leaving Margot Robbie’s Barbie behind.
Comedian and talk show host Jimmy Kimmel will once again host the Academy Awards 2024. This is going to be Kimmel’s fourth time hosting the ceremony. Jack Quaid and Zazie Beetz announced the nominations at the Samuel Goldwyn Theatre in Beverly Hills. Let’s find out more.
Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer dominates Academy Awards 2024 nominations
The nominations for Academy Awards 2024 were announced on Tuesday and Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer starring Cillian Murphy dominates the list, securing 13 nominations. Emma Stone starring Poor Things managed to secure 11 nominations. (Via Vanity Fair)
Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro starring in Killers of the Flower Moon received 10 nominations with 2023’s biggest movie Barbie by Greta Gerwig only managing to secure 8 nominations. Since Oppenheimer and Barbie were released on the same day, there have been constant comparisons between the two movies in terms of awards and box office collections. It won’t be wrong to say that even though Barbie beat Oppenheimer at the box office, Nolan’s movie has been ahead of Barbie when it comes to awards.
Surprisingly, even though lead actor Ryan Gosling was recognized by the Academy and earned a nomination for Best Supporting Actor, Margot Robbie was snubbed. Robbie’s performance as Barbie received critical acclaim but it turns out the Acamdey does feel the same way.
Director Greta Gerwig was also snubbed by the Academy for the Best Director award. Only one female director; Justine Triet made it to the list. Actress America Ferra was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her work in Barbie.
