Oscars 2025 Best Picture Nominations Put Timothée Chalamet in Elite Club of Actors Led by Matthew McConaughey, Brad Pitt, and More

The 97th Academy Awards will be held on March 2, 2025, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles. The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences will present the Oscars in 23 categories that are going to honor the movies released in 2024. Comedian and podcaster Conan O’Brien is set to host the show for the first time that is going to see Timothée Chalamet compete alongside Adrien Brody, Sebastian Stan, Ralph Fiennes, and Colman Domingo for the Best Actor award.

Rachel Sennott and Bowen Yang announced the nominations for the Oscars 2025 on 23rd January 2025 at the Samuel Goldwyn Theatre. Selena Gomez’s Emilia Pérez received the most nominations—13—followed by The Brutalist and Wicked, bagging 10 each. The announcement of the nominations makes Timothée Chalamet part of an elite club. And he takes it a step ahead.

Timothée Chalamet joins an elite club as Dune: Part 2 and A Complete Unknown compete for Best Picture

Timothée Chalamet is without a doubt one of the most talented actors of the current generation who has impressed the entire world with his performances in movies including Little Women, Lady Bird, Dune, and more. For his work on Luca Guadagnino’s Call Me by Your Name in 2017 opposite Armie Hammer, the actor was nominated for Best Actor at the 90th Academy Awards.

The year 2024 was also a fantastic year for the actor, as his movies, including Dune: Part Two and A Complete Unknown, were not only a success but also solidified his position in the industry. Chalamet was highly praised for his work in both movies, respectively.

For Dune: Part Two, Chalamet reprised his character of Paul Atreides, which was a massive success. Filmmakers including Steven Spielberg, James Cameron, Luca Guadagnino, Christopher Nolan, Jeff Fowler, and more did not shy away from praising the performances in the movie along with Denis Villeneuve’s direction.

And for A Complete Unknown, directed by James Mangold, the actor portrayed Bob Dylan. The singer-songwriter himself praised Chalamet’s casting. The young actor has received praise from critics and audiences for being able to embody Bob Dylan on-screen and not doing too much. They also praised the director for staying true to the singer’s story.

Now with Dune: Part Two and A Complete Unknown being nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars 2025, Timothée Chalamet has joined an elite club where leading actors’ two movies are competing with each other for the win. He now joins the list of actors, including Matthew McConaughey, Brad Pitt, Tom Hiddleston, Jeremy Strong, and more, who have had the privilege to watch their best work compete with each other. 

Timothée Chalamet is nominated for the Best Actor award alongside Adrien Brody, Sebastian Stan, Colman Domingo, and Ralph Fiennes. The actor, according to Gold Derby, is also the first actor from the ‘90s to win multiple acting nominations.

Timothée Chalamet to host and star as a musical guest on Saturday Night Live

In the new promo for Saturday Night Live, Chalamet surprised everyone when he revealed that he has got some help to host and perform on the show. He called in four look-alikes dressed up as Willy Wonka, Bob Dylan, and more who’d be helping him to make his SNL show go smoothly. He said,

I’ve never done this before. I have to be an SNL host and musical guest in the same week. So, it’s a lot of work, and I want to focus on the songs. So, I brought in some help to cover all the hosting duties.

The young actor who showed up at his look-alike contest a couple of months back joked that he’d get one of his look-alikes to cover for him as he has to appear on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

Chalamet portrayed Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown, and he learned how to sing and play guitar for his role. He is using his skills to the best of his ability, as he is the first non-pro singer to serve as a musical guest on SNL in 30 years. This is going to be the third time hosting the show for Chalamet and the episode will air on January 25, 2025.
