Pedro Pascal has been working his magic in Hollywood for quite a few years now. There is no longer the same kind of buzz as there used to be when new episodes of his shows were aired weekly, but fans are more than happy to talk about the ones he has been a part of. One of these shows is The Mandalorian, the first live-action series of the Star Wars franchise.

Even with the mask on most of the time, Pascal broke the internet with his portrayal of the titular character in the show. The show has been quite popular throughout its three-season run. When asked why he chose to become a part of the show, he said that it was not a clear-cut choice. In fact, his answer proves that it was more or less of a gamble that he was willing to make.

Pascal played a character as popular as the titular one in The Mandalorian in the video game-to-TV show adaptation of The Last of Us. In an interview with Wired, when asked why he chose to do such roles, he said that he found it funny when someone tried to associate his experience doing these roles with “choice”.

Of course you can say no to things, but you can’t say no to Jon Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, Dave Filoni, or HBO. It never felt like stopping and considering what the characters were. It was simply the circumstance of a door opening and stepping through it.

Upon being asked if there was anything specific that led him to do The Last of Us, he replied:

To be totally honest, it was wanting to work with Craig Mazin, who did Chernobyl. Also, HBO is content that I literally grew up on. I experienced their original programming. Their original programming was very, very mature.

Pascal did these roles without paying much attention to what the character and the storyline were. His primary focus here seemed to be working with people and networks who had done great work and not how things would play out if they had made a wrong decision.

Things worked out in his favor, but he was certainly toying with a double-edged sword because the world has seen projects attached to big names go awry because they made some wrong choices. When that happens, the actors, too, become the target of the criticism. Luckily, this was not the case for Pascal.

Pedro Pascal began his professional acting career in 1999 with roles in TV shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and The Good Wife. He also began doing theatre. Even so, it took him quite some time to get his career off the ground. He did not have his big breakthrough until 2014 when he was cast as Oberyn Martell a.k.a. The Viper in the fourth season of Game of Thrones.

His fame saw new heights when he began appearing as the titular character in The Mandalorian. The show premiered with the launch of the streaming platform Disney+ in 2019 and instantly became a hit with fans and critics. This is when his career gained full momentum, and it has been one hell of a ride ever since. In fact, he is now donning the superhero suit to portray Reed Richards in MCU’s Fantastic Four.

The Mandalorian is available for streaming on Disney+. The Last of Us and Game of Thrones are available for streaming on Max.
