However, the writers’ room has been opened as shared by the co-creators and co-showrunners Jon Steinberg and Dan Shotz. Considering the impressive reception of season one, the creators have decided to bring the Greek gods, monsters, and heroes to life again.

Writers Room Open For Percy Jackson Season 2 Without Renewal Confirmation

Inspired by the famous Percy Jackson book series, the Disney+ show Percy Jackson and the Olympians has incredibly managed not to deviate from the source material. The show features Walker Scobell in the titular role of Percy Jackson, who’s out on an adventure with his friends from Camp Half-Blood which resembles a summer camp. There are several book series, and the show started with its first The Lightning Thief, where Percy discovers his heritage of being a demigod.

The first season follows Percy finding that he’s a child of the Greek God of the Sea Poseidon, and the narrative revolves around him between conflicts. The conclusion of season one shows Percy and his friends rating ways after they failed to meet the deadline of returning the lightning bolt. The makers kept the ongoing mystery open-ended to make the next season’s narrative, and considering the success of the latest show, they have kept the writers’ room open.

During an interview with Variety, Jon Steinberg and Dan Shotz talked about Percy Jackson‘s storyline, its reception, and insights on the next chapter. While opening up about  season 2, Steinberg said:

“There is an awareness on everyone’s part that the demand for the show seems to suggest we should probably not stop making it.”

The co-showrunner explained with a laugh that considering how the Disney+ show has been successful, Disney shouldn’t take much time to officially confirm its arrival. The ending part reflects Percy’s understanding of the dysfunctional family dynamics among the Gods, which also sets the base for season 2.

Even though the series is said to have been well-received by fans, Disney’s silence over its renewal has frustrated them, leading to a demand for the next chapter. As the story continues, Percy’s relationships also evolve with time, making the narrative more exciting and engaging. According to a post shared on X (earlier Twitter), fans have expressed their desire to witness more of Percy Jackson.

While co-creators talked about season 2’s progress, they also mentioned actor Lance Reddick‘s contribution to the series. Reddick played Zeus in the show, who is a key character in Percy Jackson. But due to the actor’s unfortunate death last year, the makers have to work on the recasting of Zeus.

Steinberg acknowledged Lance Reddick’s strong performance in Percy Jackson and the Olympians, and while honoring the deceased actor’s performance, the creators will also make space for a new face to portray Zeus. The potential challenge they might face is to select an actor who delivers a performance as impactful as Reddick’s.
