Steven Knight, widely known as the creator of Peaky Blinders, has written the script for Maria. The movie recently premiered at the 81st Venice International Film Festival, and the reaction from the audience had the actress in tears. THR’s Chriss Garder took to his social media to share a very heartwarming moment from the red carpet of the 81st Venice International Film Festival, where actress Angelina Jolie greeted a fan with ALS. The reporter mentioned that the Italian writer Pasqualino Esposito suffers from osteogenesis imperfecta, a genetic disorder also known as brittle bone disease.
Esposito has been a festival regular over the years, and before entering the Sala Grande Theatre for the premiere of her movie, Jolie took the opportunity to greet Esposito on the red carpet. She kneeled beside his bed and spoke to the writer and his father who were at the film festival. The reporter spoke to the writer, who said via a translator about Jolie;

Angelina Jolie walked on the red carpet in a custom strapless beige Tamara Ralph gown with a fur store covering the sleeves. The actress paired her look with bold red lips that matched her nails. Maria received an 8-minute standing ovation at the Sala Grande Theatre, and the audience saw Jolie getting emotional looking at the response from the audience for her hard work. The opera singer, after dedicating her life to performing for audiences around the world, finally decided to find her voice, and her own identity, and sing for herself.

Ahead of the screening of Maria, Jolie at the press conference that she spent about seven months preparing for the challenging role. She revealed that she worked with trained opera singers and coaches to master the posture, breathing, and movement of Maria Callas to portray her honestly on screen. The actress shared via THR,
I had no idea how much I was holding in and not letting out. So the challenge wasn’t technical; it was an emotional experience to find my voice, to be in my body, to express. You have to give every single part of yourself.
The Salt actress was asked which part of her did she relate to Maria Callas the most, and she mentioned that the part of her that is extremely soft. Jolie went ahead to explain that the world does not have room to be as soft and emotionally open as she truly was. She shared during the press conference that she shares the vulnerability of Maria Callas more than anything.
Angelina Jolie has described preparing for Maria as therapy she didn’t realize she needed. She also acknowledged that before they started filming for the movie, she was very nervous, as the filmmaker wanted to portray the best of the characters on-screen.
