‘Physical’ Star Rose Byrne Regretted Fox Kicking Her Out of Final X-Men Movie: “Unfortunately, Moira is not showing up”
The X-Men team assembled with much hype in 2019 to take on one of their own, Jean Grey, in the movie titled, Dark Phoenix, which also turned out to be the final 20th Century Fox-backed X-Men venture.
After impressing fans in X-Men: Apocalypse, Game of Thrones sensation Sophie Turner reprised her role of Jean, who ends up with complete control of the powers of the Phoenix Force and spirals out of everyone’s control, leading to Xavier’s school being renamed as the Jean Grey School.
While Turner’s second appearance in the X-Men franchise saw her being awarded the plot that revolved around her character, another important character from the X-Men prequels failed to make the cut in the final adventure.
How Rose Byrne Reacted to Missing Out on the Final X-Men Movie
Simon Kinberg took charge of directing Dark Phoenix, which proved to be a stand-out superhero movie because of how important the female characters were in driving the storyline. Apart from Sophie Turner‘s Jean, Jessica Chastain also featured in the movie as Vuk, the leader of the D’Bari race, who aimed to destroy the Phoenix. The 2022 Best Actress Oscar winner described her character as “clinical”.
However, Fox Studios, for some reason, dropped the crucial character of Moira MacTaggert – who was a CIA operative studying mutants – from the movie without much explanation. Rose Byrne carried the role in X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Apocalypse.
She revealed her disappointment at the development before the movie’s release in 2018, stating:
“Unfortunately, Moira is not showing up. I wish she was. I had such fun on X-Men: Apocalypse. I love that cast. It is a really fun, what do you call it? Superhero film… ensemble exactly. I can’t wait to see what [Jessica Chastain] does, ’cause I’m such a fan.”
Fortunately for Byrne, she didn’t miss out on much, as Fox’s final take at X-Men proved to be underwhelming, with Dark Phoenix failing to get any notable appreciation from fans and critics alike. At the box office, it managed to collect a meager $252.4 million.

Will There Be a Fourth Season of Rose Byrne’s Physical
Byrne has done pretty well since missing out on Dark Phoenix. In particular, she has led Apple TV Plus’ dark comedy Physical for two seasons brilliantly.
In fact, the third season only premiered on Wednesday. The show follows the story of Sheila Rubin, a tormented housewife in 1980s San Diego, who finds her true inner self through aerobics.
Despite all the love and praise the show and the 44-year-old actress have received, it’s not being renewed for a fourth season. “It’s all very bittersweet,” she said ahead of the third season.
Byrne’s other comedy show on the same platform, Platonic, which also features Seth Rogen, is also expected to be not renewed by Apple TV Plus.
