Pierce Brosnan Did Not Want Angelina Jolie in His Movie Because of This Reason
Pierce Brosnan, an Irish actor and film producer, is one of the most gifted performers in the industry, and he was fortunate to be the fifth actor to play secret agent James Bond in the Bond franchise. From 1995 through 2002, he played James Bond in four films.
After Brosnan revealed in 2004 that he was no longer looking to star as James Bond, he returned to acting in other movies and garnered support from his devoted fan base, as well as praise for the roles he portrayed on-screen. During his James Bond career, the actor appeared in 1999’s The Thomas Crown Affair, which was rumored to have a sequel and Pierce Brosnan was convinced that he did not want to star opposite this actress.

Pierce Brosnan’s Thomas Crown cemented his legacy as a charming heartbreaker
During an interview with NPR, the casting director Pat McCorkle revealed that Pierce Brosnan, who played the character of Thomas Crown, along with producing the movie, had brought the project to the table and he was working for MGM as he played James Bond at the time.
She said that the production house had asked him what he would like to do. The casting director was asked if she was in charge of finding a possible romantic lead in the movie, to which she said,
“My job was to give them lists of people that I thought were–would be feasible with Pierce. John McTiernan did a brilliant job on directing that film, and it was very important to him that whoever played opposite him would be someone–a peer of his.”
McCorkle further said Brosnan said he wanted to appear opposite to someone a little mature so that they could have a mature relationship and thus the actress Rene Russo was finalized as the main lead opposite the actor. The movie was well received by the audience and the actor’s legacy was cemented as a charming heartbreaker.
Pierce Brosnan prefers Charlize Theron to Angelina Jolie
The James Bond actor played the role of a billionaire who steals a painting from an art gallery and is pursued by an insurance investigator and the two of them end up falling in love. He admitted that he would have preferred Charlize Theron over Angelina Jolie for his romantic lead in the movie.
During an interview with Irish Central, he said, “Charlize Theron is someone who I’ve always admired. I think she’s someone who has acquitted herself grandly. Nothing against Angelina Jolie. I think she’s a magnificent actress. But Charlize has a poise about her and has an inner strength and femininity which I like to watch.”
The actor also spoke to Moviehole about the sequel, stating that they are in full steam ahead and if they do not have it by the end of 2009 then he added that they should say that they gave their best.
Pierce Brosnan starring movie sequel demanded a lot from Angelina Jolie
According to reports, Angelina Jolie, who was the front-runner for the movie, was expected to gain some weight or add on some muscle as she did not have the desired physical stats for the role. The Mirror reported,
“Ideally wanted Angelina to put on two stones for the role. It is going to be very physically demanding, which is why they want her to carry the extra weight. They don’t want a reprise of what happened with Wanted, where she was fainting and they had to take her costume on.”
In addition to adding on some kilos, the actress was also expected to have a more imposing physique, as she pointed out that she was slated for being too skinny to portray an action woman, and for the movie they wanted a female lead who was convincing and Jolie’s changes to her body would have helped.
The duo later worked together in 2010’s Jane’s Journey, but the sequel of Thomas Crown Affair never saw the light of day and is reportedly no longer in the making.
