Julia Louis-Dreyfus’s Sitcom Pulled An UNO Reverse On The Boys By Breaking A Record Overnight
Earlier this month, the entirety of America was taken aback after 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks fired 8 bullets in the direction of former President Donald Trump, who managed to escape the assassination attempt with a bloodied ear (via /Film). 81-year-old President Joe Biden refused a second term after the incident and pitched Vice President Kamala Harris instead.
Although the incident shook the American citizens, it has boosted the reputation of Armando Iannucci’s sitcom, Veep. According to CBS News, the show that ended in 2019 suddenly has experienced a 353% surge in viewership since Harris’ candidacy. The sitcom registered 2.2 million watch minutes on July 22, as compared to 486,000 watch minutes on July 21.
By gaining such overnight hype, Veep has pulled a UNO reverse on Eric Kripke’s The Boys. Although The Boys presents real-life incidents as satire, Veep has already accidentally predicted most of the events that are happening in the present time. Clearly, Veep was way ahead of its time.
Veep’s Showrunner Seems To Be Enjoying The Recent Political Atmosphere Of America
Veep’s showrunner, David Mandel, seems to be having an enjoyable time experiencing the recent political air of America. When The Hollywood Reporter approached him regarding Veep going viral again, Mandel expressed that he is enjoying what’s happening in America.
Politics seem fun again… I wake up wondering what’s going on. How much money has Kamala Harris raised so far? All of a sudden, things seem enjoyable.
Mandel also said that the crazier the political atmosphere of America gets, the more will people find themselves getting hooked on Veep. He further mentioned that Veep became strangely different because of how Donald Trump handled politics. However, with the recent events, the wind has changed and that’s why Veep is blooming again as a show.
During the chat with the outlet, Mandel also talked about how he was impressed with one particular clip from the season two finale that aired in 2013. He loved the scene when Vice President Selina found out about the President removing himself from the ticket. Mandel admitted proudly that he took up the job of Veep’s showrunner due to that specific scene only.
Veep is available for streaming on Max. The Boys is available for streaming on Prime Video.
