Applegate’s last project was Netflix’s Dead to Me. Following her illness, the comedy series was put on hiatus so that she could begin the treatment. Being a dedicated actress, Applegate returned and completed her part in the series. The series was wrapped up in 2022, and its third and final season was released in November 2022. Making the hard decision to end her film career was never easy for Applegate. During the conversation, the actress revealed,
“Finishing the show with the symptoms was as hard as you would possibly think it would be.”
Though the actress enjoyed working on her allegedly last project, while discussing her experience, she praised her co-star Linda Cardellini. She said,
“Ping-pong is so much more fun when the other person is just as good as you are…I’m so glad that I went out with someone who is by far the greatest actress I’ve ever worked with in my entire life if not the greatest human I’ve ever known.”
Applegate is diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, which disables the central nervous system — the brain and spinal cord. The disease causes communication problems between the brain and the rest of the body, which leads to a lack of coordination and numbness.
What are Christina Applegate’s plans after quitting her acting career?
Following her illness, Christina Applegate has reached a decision about whether to end her acting career. But Applegate is not a quitter, no matter how hard it gets for her. After deciding to give up on her acting career, the actress might seek to explore other endeavors.
Opting to leave the film line was a very hard decision for Applegate, yet she has some plans for the future. The Married with Children actress said,
“It’s about finding what I’m capable of doing. I’m so new in this right now. It takes time to kind of figure out this disease, and figure out what’s bringing on symptoms. I’m just a newbie to all of this. So I’m trying to figure it out — and I’m also in mourning for the person who I was. I have to find a place that’s as loving as my set was, where they won’t think I’m a diva by saying, ‘Hey, I can only work five hours.’ I’m seeking a place that will allow me to work five hours if I’m not the star and starring in something that might be off the table in the future. There’s no way I could do the work that I just came off again. I mean, it was so hard,”
Being exhausted from her condition, the actress explained that working in earlier days wouldn’t be possible for her after the diagnosis. She said,
“Right now, I couldn’t imagine getting up at 5 a.m. and spending 12 to 14 hours on a set. I don’t have that in me at this moment.”
However, to make a living, she has found another way other than acting. Applegate may never make an onscreen appearance now, but she won’t quit the entertainment line entirely. The Vacation actress has decided to do voiceovers to make some money and keep herself busy. She said,
“I can’t even imagine going to set right now. This is a progressive disease. I don’t know if I’m going to get worse. I can do voiceover stuff because I have to support my family and keep my brain working,”
Not just this, the actress also claimed that she has various other ideas in her mind to keep her life afloat.
