Proof That ‘Agatha All Along’ Is Basically Marvel’s Genius Trick to Set Up Young Avengers’ Entire Cast is Here
- 'Agatha All Along' hints at the formation of the Young Avengers by introducing Billy Maximoff.
- Billy also hints at the presence of his brother Tommy, who is also a part of Young Avengers in comics.
- MCU has already introduced several Young Avengers characters, laying the groundwork.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe is constantly evolving as it is expanding more and more into the multiverse. However, all this expansion is also leading to the end or retirement of many old characters like Tony Stark and Steve Rogers.
It is predicted that Avengers: Secret Wars will be like a soft reboot of the universe where some of the old characters will be retired and new young superheroes will take their legacy forward. Marvel’s new show Agatha All Along seems to be one of the first steps towards achieving that, as it is seemingly setting up the Young Avengers.
How Billy Maximoff in Agatha All Along Hints at Young Avengers?
Marvel’s new Disney+ series Agatha All Along is slowly taking a serious turn as it enters its later half. Initially, the show appeared to be all about Agatha Harkness and her quest to gain her power back with some help from fellow witches and the mysterious Rio Vidal.
However, the ending of Episode 5 took a new turn when it revealed the identity of Joe Locke‘s teen as Wanda Maximoff’s reincarnated son, Billy Maximoff. When Harkness identifies Billy, he stops hiding his powers and uses them against her.
After that, Agatha All Along deviates from Harkness’ story in Episode 6 and starts exploring Billy Maximoff’s story. But now, since there is no way back from the Witches’ Road, they have no choice but to be an unlikely team to end the journey.
However, what seemingly foreshadows MCU’s future is that Billy believes his brother Tommy has also reincarnated in a new body, just like him. In Episode 6, Harkness guesses Billy wants to find his brother after completing his journey. Billy says that he can feel his brother, but can’t figure out his exact location.
Now, Billy and Tommy have been a part of the Young Avengers in Marvel comics. Much like in the show, in comics, the brothers did not see each other initially. After Iron Lad recruits Billy to the Young Avengers, he sees Tommy imprisoned in a detention facility. Later, Hulkling reveals that they are indeed brothers.
The way Agatha All Along is going, it looks like Marvel is targeting two things at a time- to finish Harkness’ story and potentially leave a possibility of Wanda Maximoff’s return and to set up the foundation of Young Avengers for the future.
MCU Has Already Started Setting Up Young Avengers
Agatha All Along is the newest step towards the Young Avengers. MCU has already introduced several characters from the superhero team, which are not going anywhere soon.
So far, MCU has introduced Kate Bishop, Kamala Khan, America Chavez, Cassie Lang, Riri Williams, Skaar, Eli Bradley, Billy Maximoff, and now potentially Tommy Maximoff’s Speed as well. At the end of The Marvels, Kamala Khan was also seen recruiting Kate Bishop for a new team.
Iman Vellani herself talked about a potential Young Avengers movie in the future in an interview with Screen Rant. She said,
They have perspectives that the older Avengers don’t, especially because they’ve had to deal with the repercussions, but they’re also a fan of the older Avengers. So I think they can really make this team-up something new. I think it’ll be way more functional than the Avengers even were.
Besides her, Hailee Steinfeld and Kathryn Newton have also been open about their further involvement in MCU. Kevin Feige also told Screen Rant about the possibility of Young Avengers,
Well, sure…so where and when we would see the evolution of that? I don’t know. And certainly – taking our cue from the comics as we always do – that’s why we wanted Cassie, a very young Cassie in this movie, to be inspired by her father. Just planting seeds.
It looks like Marvel was already certain about building a Young Avengers team, and the current MCU storylines are going well in that direction. Fans might be able to see a short team-up in the upcoming Avengers movie, which will foreshadow their future together.
Agatha All Along drops a new episode every Wednesday on Disney+.
