‘Queer Characters Existing isn’t Political’: Star Wars Mega Trolls Homophobic Keyboard Warrior
The person who’s handling Star Wars’ official Twitter account lost their cool after a “fan” of the franchise decided to tell them not to make Star Wars political. Over the years, a lot of so-called “fans” have scrutinized almost everything that the creators have made.
The official Star Wars account shared Jan Bazaldua’s cover for Star Wars: Bounty Hunters #24
To celebrate Pride month, the official Star Wars Twitter account tweeted Jan Bazaldua’s cover for Star Wars: Bounty Hunters #24 featuring the couple T’ongo and Losha.

Unfortunately, a lot of people criticized this move in the comments.
Star Wars decided to clap back at the toxicity
One user replied “don’t make Star Wars political” under the comic, to which the Star Wars account replied with:
1. Queer characters existing isn’t political
2. Star WARS is literally in our name

This reply received a lot of likes as real fans of the franchise are happy to see that official accounts are also not taking it anymore. Star Wars has always been a political franchise, whether fans look to the prequel, sequel, original trilogy, or even animated series.
The Star Wars fan base has always been criticized of being toxic
Moses Ingram, the actress who plays the Third Sister in Obi-Wan Kenobi, received a lot of racist messages directed at her. She later spoke about all the hate that she received, she said, “There’s nothing anyone can do about this. There’s nothing anybody can do to stop this hate.”
Lucasfilm and Star Wars fans flooded her with messages of support. Even Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen showed support to Ingram, saying “I think she has done a good job.”
Lucasfilm wrote, “We are proud to welcome Moses Ingram to the Star Wars family and excited for Reva’s story to unfold. If anyone intends to make her feel in any way unwelcome, we have only one thing to say: we resist.” adding, “There are more than 20 million sentient species in the Star Wars galaxy, don’t choose to be a racist.”
There was another instance when Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi was released. Kelly Marie Tran was forced to leave social media after people flooded her with sexist and racist comments.
