“Rachel probably isn’t there”: Patrick J Adams Always Wanted a Suits Spinoff Focusing on Mike’s Story
With the widespread use and subscription of OTT platforms, even cable shows and series that used to air weekly are now getting the attention they always deserved. Look at Suits, for example. The legal drama was leaps ahead of its time with witty banter, romantic angles, and suave lawyers who could win cases in their sleep. The show, available on Netflix, broke viewing records by streaming over 57.7 billion minutes. It became the most-viewed show last year.
Suits Gets a Second Life
Even though the show has been on Peacock and Amazon Prime Video for many years, it saw this much traction once Netflix acquired the streaming rights for Suits, and gave it a second chance at success. Given Netflix’s popularity, the show experienced massive viewership week after week. Younger generations who prefer to “Netflix and chill” kept finding the show and rewatching it for all its blended comedy and drama.

The show’s lead stars were even tapped into appearing in a Super Bowl ad, consolidating their position in the industry once again. Gabriel Macht and Patrick J. Adams sat down with The Hollywood Reporter to talk about filming the T-Mobile Super Bowl ad and the resurgence of Suits with record-breaking viewership and even a spinoff in the works. Suits creator Aaron Korsh is developing a spinoff for NBA that will feature a lawyer who moved from New York to LA.
To this, the lead duo offers some advice to the new cast of Suits LA. From wearing comfortable shoes to using a device to learn their tricky dialogue, Macht and Adams completely transform into Harvey Specter and Mike Ross, making fans reminisce about the 9-season long show and the camaraderie they shared. Adams further mentioned that he would have liked a spinoff based on Mike and Rachel’s life in Seattle. However, since Meghan Markle is now married to Prince Harry from the British Royal Family, it is highly unlikely she would be up for the spinoff.
In fact, during the run of the show, Markle had to exit the show because she was getting married and hence their exit from New York was written. The couple moved to Seattle to work on pro bono cases away from the high-profile, filthy-rich defendants. It would have been fun to see how Mike and Rachel built their new life from scratch and did what they always wanted to do by helping people in need.
What is Suits LA About?
The spinoff in development will be about a lawyer named Ted Black. Leaving his life of federal prosecution in New York behind, he moves and reinvents himself in LA. The firm he will work at will seemingly be an entertainment law firm, so the LA location makes sense. There has been no official confirmation on the cast of the show other than Stephen Amell who will reportedly lead the show. In the synopsis of the show, it is revealed that Black and his friend Stuart Lane come together to build their own firm.
The original stars of Suits might return for an appearance, but there is no official announcement for the same. Considering the show will be set in the same universe as the original show, it is possible for Harvey and Mike to be a part of the spinoff, even if it’s just for a couple of episodes. The premise of both shows is quite similar with different settings. We hope to see similar banter and challenging cases as Suits did originally.
