A new story came when stories regarding a weight-related event in the shooting surfaced, which resulted in fat-shaming accusations. TMZ earlier reported that the weight discussion emerged from a scene where Justin Baldoni needed to pick Blake Lively up. The actor-director, who was suffering from back issues, asked the on-set trainer about Lively’s weight so that he could perform the scene safely without worsening the pain.

In the social media platform, Baldoni’s health challenges were well documented. According to The US Sun, he posted a medical update on his Instagram, stating that he could not sit on his heels and hinted at having troubles with his herniated discs in his back and also mentioned “shoulder issues.”

These issues required medical intervention during such physically demanding scenes. In this respect, it seemed reasonable for Baldoni to ask about Lively’s weight since people with herniated discs are prohibited from lifting more weights, meaning that Baldoni needed to prepare accordingly to perform whatever lifting scenes were needed properly.

However, the whole fat-shaming situation became even more complicated since Lively had delivered her fourth child just a few months before the shoot began. When the trainer relayed Baldoni’s inquiry to her, she probably felt that she was being fat-shamed, possibly due to a lack of communication between the two co-stars.

The result was this miscommunication exploded into a bigger problem. But direct communication between Baldoni and Lively would have perhaps avoided such confusion if this whole situation happened just like the way it has been reported.

The alleged fat-shaming situation got more complex after Ryan Reynolds reportedly confronted Baldoni about the incident. According to Variety, Baldoni filed a $250 million lawsuit against The New York Times allegedly supporting Lively’s accusations without providing the other side’s facts.

In the complaints, Baldoni also mentioned that Reynolds reportedly confronted him during an encounter at the couple’s New York City apartment, where he “demanded” an apology for the alleged fat-shaming. According to People, Baldoni’s legal team stated,

Reynolds launched into a tirade, berating Baldoni in what Baldoni later described as a ‘traumatic’ encounter, stating he had ‘never been spoken to like that in his life.’

They further added that “Reynolds became further enraged” when Baldoni “resisted apologizing for what he had not done.” The event was reportedly more embarrassing since it was stated that it took place when friends and celebrities visited the couple’s penthouse.

However, according to Deadline, Lively’s legal team said in their lawsuit filed on December 31 that “there was no such scene” in the movie where Baldoni’s injured back had to be compromised, as mentioned in his filings.

Moreover, sources told TMZ that although Reynolds was “angry and stern” during his encounter with Baldoni, he never “berated” or raised his voice. This adds another layer of conflict to the ongoing controversy as both parties pursue legal actions.
