Resident Evil Films Ranked As Per The Tomatometer (Rotten Tomatoes)
Milla Jovovich has been going through the zombie apocalypse for the last 15 years and now with Welcome to Raccoon City, the journey is going to get more adventurous.
With that being said, the Resident Evil series is perhaps one of the most successful adaptations of a video game franchise. The journey began with Resident Evil (2002), post which the makers released five other films starring Milla Jovovich. While many other video fame adaptations failed, Resident Evil managed to run for about 14 years now. To acknowledge the massive entry of Welcome to Raccoon City, here is a glimpse of all the previous Resident Evil movies, ranked as per Rotten Tomatoes –
Resident Evil: Apocalypse
Resident Evil: Apocalypse adapted prominent parts from the video game; highlighting it as the only part to do so out of all the Resident Evil films. While this stunt somehow managed to earn quick brownie points from the Resident Evil 3: Nemesis fans, it didn’t earn much fortune from the critics. As a result, it received multiple levels of criticism, most of which labeled it as “boring.”
Resident Evil: Afterlife
When Resident Evil: Afterlife showed up on the screen, critics almost started reacting numb to the franchise’s releases. Perhaps that is why the outliers existed in the system. While some of them criticized the film as “unacceptable,” others echoed that they were unmoved by the action scenes of the film.
Resident Evil: Extinction
This part of the franchise tried to shake the plot up by transforming and shifting from Raccoon City to a Western setting. Director Russell Mulcahy, who is best known for films such as Highlander, got praised for some part of it. The critics were quite impressed by the way Mulcahy drafted the action scenes and brought the vibe from the Army of the Dead on the same ground. As a result, the critics were quite on the same page where they believed that Extinction was neither that bad nor spectacular. While many of them agreed on the first opinion, others seemed to be enjoying it as a guilty pleasure.
Resident Evil: Retribution
Resident Evil: Retribution added quite a few characters from the video games such as Ada Wong and Leon Kennedy. In fact, the film got also praised for the return of Paul W. S. Anderson as the director. As a result, the critics marked the film better for bringing more bold scenes on-screen instead of working with the old “guilty pleasures.”
Resident Evil
It was perhaps the very first entry in the franchise and managed to provide a prominent foundation to the five of its sequels. With that being said, while some critics marked this film as a bad adaptation of the video game, others liked the zombie-oriented story.
Resident Evil: The Final Chapter
Last but not the least, The Final Chapter somewhat received a similar response as the previous movies of the saga did. However, the overall reactions were greater than all the previous sequels. Perhaps that is why the film managed to get a rating of 37% (highest till now) on the Tomatometer.
Next, fans will have to wait till 24th November to see what Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City does in the theaters.
