Rick & Morty: New Second Official Spinoff Anime Announced
Good news for all Rick and Morty fans! The Adult Swim network is finally developing a Rick and Morty anime series with Takashi Sano as its director. The series will air on HBO Max and also, on the cable network.
The sci-fi comedy revolves around a kid and a mad scientist who is also his grandfather as the two go on interdimensional adventures. The show has enjoyed commercial and critical success since its release on Adult Swim back in 2013. Created by Justin Roiland, Rick and Morty was created by Dan Harmon and also, the source Back to the Future parody short, and Dan Harmon. He has also played the titular duo.
Rick and Morty Has expanded exponentially over the years
As Rick and Morty has had various seasons at Adult Swim, which also includes the 70-episode deal inked with Harmon and Roiland. Rick and Morty has also expanded to many other mediums, including musical releases, comic books, and video games. The series would see its on-screen expansion as development on a short spinoff series titled The Vindicator got is already underway. This will be centered on the heroic team which goes by the same name that was introduced in the third season, which is gearing up to debut later this year. With more Rick and Morty seasons arriving in the future, the creative team behind the popular franchise is looking forward to keeping the hot streak going with a major expansion.
Here’s the official statement by Adult Swim President Michael Ouweleen on the announcement and the first poster of the anime:
“Toonami helped introduce anime to a U.S. audience 25 years ago, and is creating new, dynamic originals for the next generation of anime fans. These two series build on the legacy of those recent originals such as Fena: Pirate Princess, Blade Runner: Black Lotus, Shenmue the Animation, with Uzumaki and Housing Complex C, premiering later this year.”
The Rick and Morty anime series’ announcement arrives as some really interesting news for many fans of the series, as with Sano at directing the series after directing and writing the previous anime shorts. As of now, we do not know how much progress has been made on the Vindicators spinoff series, as it was announced back in May last year and is slated for an unspecified release this year or 2022.
