One of the most talked-about feuds in the entertainment industry is without a doubt between Taylor Swift and Kanye West. The duo’s bad blood became the talk of the town back in 2009 when Kanye West interrupted the former’s speech at the 2009 Video Music Awards mentioning that Beyoncé should have won.

Kanye West, however, did apologize to the artist, but things have never been smooth with the duo. Their feud dating back to 2009 was followed by the West’s release of the song Famous in 2016, which once again ignited hostility between the two. Surprisingly, Kanye West’s former wife, Kim Kardashian, also got entangled in their rivalry.

Kanye West’s Famous reignited rivalry with Taylor Swift

Kanye West debuted his 2016 Famous song from his album The Life of Pablo at the Yeezy Show, and the song had a lyric that seemed like him taking a dig at Taylor Swift. The lyrics that read, ‘I feel like me and Taylor might still have s*x/ Why? I made that bi**h famous’, received backlash from the fans.

However, Kanye West claimed that Taylor Swift was aware of the name drop in the song, and he did get her permission after having an hour-long conversation. Kim Kardashian, in her interview with GQ in 2016, shared,

“She totally approved that. She totally knew that that was coming out. She wanted to all of a sudden act like she didn’t. I swear, my husband gets so much sh** for things when he really was doing proper protocol and even called to get it approved.”

West released the music video for Famous, which was reportedly inspired by Vincent Desiderio’s 2008 Sleep Painting. The music video featured naked sculptures resembling Swift, Anna Wintour, Donald Trump, Rihanna, Kim Kardashian, etc., and received backlash from the fans. Taylor’s friend Lena Dunham called the music video ‘sickening and disturbing.’

Kim Kardashian blasted Taylor Swift for denying approval of lyrics in Famous

Kim Kardashian, who was married to Kanye West at the time, decided to share clips of West on the phone talking to Swift, who thanked the artist for calling her to discuss the lyrics. In the leaked phone call video, Swift can be heard describing the lyric of the two of them having s*x as a compliment. In the recording, however, West was never heard mentioning the use of the word ‘bi**h’ for her which eventually became the issue.

Swift labeled the lyrics of Famous as misogynistic after its release and after Kardashian attempted to defend her husband by leaking the call recording, Swift said that it simply proved that she was telling the truth.

Swift mentioned that the videos Kardashian had shared on Snapchat were edited and manipulated to make it seem like something that never happened. Kardashian replied by saying she did not edit or manipulate the video but only shared a few clips to make her point that her then-husband ‘never called to ask for permission’.

Swift, in her recent interview for Time’s Person of the Year issue, addressed the infamous viral leak recording and said,

“It was an illegally recorded phone call, which Kim Kardashian edited and then put out to say to everyone that I was a liar. Make no mistake, my career was taken away from me. I thought that moment of backlash was going to define me negatively for the rest of my life.”

The Evermore artist continued,

“That took me down psychologically to place I’ve never been before. I moved to a foreign country. I didn’t leave a rental house for a year. I was afraid to get on phone calls. I pushed away most people in my life because I didn’t trust anyone anymore. I went down really, really hard.”

Taylor Swift came back in 2017 with Reputation and noted that she learned that there is no point in actively trying to defeat your enemies; adding trash takes itself out every single time.
