In an interview with Vanity Fair, Susan Downey said:

“When he sees things he admires, he really likes to look at that, examine it, and let people know. He gets excited and wants to reach out. For example, two episodes into Mr. Robot he was needing to speak to Rami Malek. He knew of Chris Abbott, but after seeing On the Count of Three, he had to reach out to him and to Jerrod Carmichael.”

As for his Oppenheimer co-star Alden Ehrenreich whom the Dolittle star absolutely adores, Susan Downe said Ehrenreich “can be guaranteed a FaceTime a week whether he likes it or not.” This gesture also signifies Robert Downey Jr.’s passion for the things he loves.

While Cillian Murphy starred as the titular character, Robert Downey Jr. was cast as Lewis Strauss, a member of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission.

Nolan is not a fan of prosthetics and wigs. Consequently, to be able to play the role convincingly, Downey Jr. had to shave his hair to create Lewis Strauss’ balding head, which is when his wife started worrying if he was going too far. The fact that the Sherlock Holmes star lost weight for the role was also making Susan Downey anxious, but she understood the purpose of it all when she watched the movie.
