Robert Downey Jr and fellow actor Jimmy Fallon revealed their rejection during auditions in the early phase of their career. Last Sunday, on The Howard Stern Show, the duo talked about many interesting insights about their professional life.
From being rejected for a romantic film to being mocked by Kate Winslet for his British accent, the Iron Man star arrived with a package full of surprises for his fans. Robert Downey Jr is currently starring in Christopher Nolan’s much-awaited film of the year, Oppenheimer which is already creating new records in the theatres.

Robert Downey Jr, 58 and Jimmy Fallon, 48 appeared on SiriusXM’s The Howard Stern Show Sunday accompanied by other celebrities that included Drew Barrymore and Jon Bon Jovi, the actors recalled meeting at a joint audition for Meyers’ classic romantic comedy.
The pair read for roles eventually taken on by Jude Law and Jack Black in the 2006 film, The Holiday. Downey shared, “We both got called in just as seat-fillers and we saw each other, Jack Black is getting his part and Jude Law is definitely getting my part, but [Meyers] needed someone to read with the gals, and we’re sitting there going, ‘It’s about to happen for us.’ “
But, it seems back then both the actors weren’t as great as now. Because recalling the audition results, Downey revealed how both of them were rejected. He said, “Nancy said to both of us at the same time, ‘This was great. It’s just not a perfect fit. It’s not a perfect fit.” The Holiday ultimately starred Diaz and Winslet as two women who swap homes during the winter holiday season and meet new love interests in new countries.

Robert Downey’s role as Iron Man in the Marvel films, not just pushed him in the A-listed category of actors, but also established him as an action hero. But his younger self would have never imagined his future to be so. His debut in the Marvel franchise as Iron Man revived his career which was totally derailed due to his past reputation of drug addiction.
In one of his resurfaced interviews, the Oppenheimer star confided that he became everything the younger him might’ve hated. He said, “It’s funny. I used to say that I’d welcome a bullet to the forehead if I ever ended up as a 40-year-something, remarried, marketable, big-action movie dad living in a cozy cul-de-sac in suburban L.A. Now I am that guy.”
