Robert Pattinson’s Satirical Serial-Killer Comedy Gets Shelved At Netflix in Favor of Adam McKay’s Climate Change Project
Robert Pattinson’s satirical serial killer comedy Average Height, Average Build, which was also supposed to star Amy Adams and Robert Downey Jr., is getting shelved on Netflix. Adam McKay, the grandmaster behind the project, is putting it on hold to work on a climate change movie.
Average Height, Average Build was reported to be a part serial killer thriller and part comedy where a serial killer uses political lobbyists so it becomes easier for him to commit murders. Robert Pattinson and Amy Adams were supposed to play the lobbyists in the movie. Forest Whitaker and Danielle Deadwyler were also some of the big names attached to the project.
Robert Pattinson’s satirical serial killer comedy gets shelved by Adam McKay at Netflix
According to The Hollywood Reporter, a spokesperson for Adam McKay said that due to climate change becoming a serious issue with each passing day, McKay has decided to center his next project around it and put Robbert Pattinson starrer Average Height, Average Build in the back for a while.
“With the climate emergency having escalated a great deal, Adam McKay has decided to make his next directorial project a climate related one, so he will not be directing Average Height, Average Build.”
If the movie had gone through as planned, it would have been McKay’s second project with Netflix after Don’t Look Up. Despite having big names like Robert Pattinson, Amy Adams, and Robert Downey Jr. and McKay’s awards and accolades in the past, this movie had a difficult time as a lot of studios passed on the project. It was mostly due to budget issues and the dark subject matter that the film kept getting rejected before Netflix picked it up. The movie being shelved truly comes as a shock to many.
Twilight director reveals that the studio did not think Robert Pattinson was attractive enough
The Twilight Saga is the one movie that changed Robert Pattinson’s life overnight. He became the heartthrob of teenagers across the globe and gained immense popularity. It can be said to be his breakthrough role. Director Catherine Hardwicke recently joined the Happy Sad Confused spinoff podcast Watchalong and revealed that the man who had teenagers swooning all over him for a decade was not considered handsome enough at first by the studio.
“When he came over to my house, he had black bangs for hair and was kind of out of shape because he was hanging out at the pub all the time. After we did the fun auditions [with Kristen] at my house for a couple hours, then I looked the next morning at all the footage I shot and recorded and I thought it worked not just in person but it works on screen. I had to be sure. Of course in person I just got carried away, but you have to be sure it translates [to the screen].”
She continued to describe how the studio’s impression was upon meeting him for the first time:
“Then I sent it to Summit and he went over to meet them. They called me back and go, ‘Do you think you can make this guy look good?’ I said, ‘Yeah, I do. Did you see his cheekbones? We’re doing a makeover on the hair and everything and he’s going to start working out and he’s going to be gorgeous.’ But they didn’t believe it at first. He like walked over there with a stained shirt or something. It was Rob.”
She ended the interview by saying that she and Kristen Stewert reunited at Robert Pattinson’s birthday party earlier in 2023. She expressed her desire to work with both of them again.
Robert Pattinson is now gearing up for Mickey 17 (2024) and The Batman Part II (2025) as his upcoming projects.
