Recent reports claim that the enraged paparazzi led Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on a ‘near catastrophic’ two-hour-long car chase. The occurrence has once again raised worries about how the media handles celebrities while also bringing back remembrance for many fans of the car chase that ended in Princess Diana’s tragic death in 1997 in Paris.

The ‘near catastrophic’ car chase involving Prince Harry and Meghan Markle has once more given credence to the critics and audience’s theories that Princess Diana’s death was not an accident but rather the result of additional factors.

Safety of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle at risk

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, as well as Markle’s mother Doria Ragland, were pursued by obnoxious paparazzi for more than two hours as they left the annual gala for Ms. Foundation for Women in New York. According to a former Royal couple’s spokesperson,

“This relentless pursuit, lasting over two hours, resulted in multiple near collisions involving other drivers on the road, pedestrians and two NYPD (New York Police Department) officers. While being a public figure comes with a level of interest from the public, it should never come at the cost of anyone’s safety.”

The spokesperson further added, “Dissemination of these images, given the ways in which they were obtained, encourages a highly intrusive practice that is dangerous to all involved.” Ms. Foundation for Women’s annual gala was Prince Harry’s first appearance after he attended his father’s and now King Charles’ coronation earlier this month.

Conspiracy theories about Princess Diana’s death live on

On August 31, 1997, in Paris, the paparazzi pursued Princess Diana, which led to a terrible car accident that ultimately claimed her life. At the time, Dodi Al-Fayed, who was in the car with them along with their bodyguard, and Princess Diana were dating.

The theory that the late Princess’ accident was intentionally done because Prince Philip had given instructions to the security services to assassinate the couple seemed to have garnered the most attention out of all the theories surrounding her death. Due to Princess Diana’s renunciation of the Royal Family, which rankled the family and prevented further harm to their reputation, having her and her lover assassinated was a simple solution.

This theory was recently brought up once again because Prince Harry’s book Spare mentioned that he had also requested to be driven through the same tunnel at the same speed in 2007 because there were so many unanswered questions, particularly from the inquest. According to him, it is “almost physically impossible” to lose control of a car unless the driver is blind.

The trio is doing ‘OK’

Several reports claim that Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and Doria Ragland are all perfectly fine and did not require hospitalization. However, an aggressive car chase by the paparazzi has once more caused spectators to wonder about the disturbing conduct displayed by the media to get the scoop. Some of the theories surrounding Princess Diana’s demise comprise the idea that the driver of the car crashed because of the ruthlessness and relentless flashes of the paparazzi.

Prince Harry is currently involved in a phone-hacking lawsuit in London against The Daily Mirror, which Piers Morgan edited from 1995 to 2004. The Duke of Sussex has recently been fighting the media in court. The British government removed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s protection when they left their roles as working royal members of the family in 2020 and shifted to California, and they have ever since battled for their safety and security.

The car chase took place on the same day that Prince Harry’s attorney claimed in court in London that he ought to have been able to contest a ruling by the government denying him the right to pay for his security in the UK. During a brief visit to the UK in July 2021, the Duke of Sussex claimed his safety was “compromised due to the absence of police protection” when his car was pursued by photographers as he left a charity event.
