Recently, he took to Instagram again to share an appreciation post for the stuntmen, who did some of those rather deadly stunts in the movie. This puts him on the same list as Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, who actively campaigned for an Oscar category for these unsung heroes of the film industry.

Stunts have been an integral part of movies since the dawn of the cinema industry. Whether or not the movie is purely from the action genre, there is bound to be a stunt or two in it. While some actors like Tom Cruise prefer doing even the toughest of stunts themselves, others have these stuntmen and stuntwomen to do those stunts for them.

Franchises like the MCU, the DCU, John Wick, and Mission: Impossible feature stunts in abundance. The actors who play the characters in these movies get recognition at the Academy Awards for their performances. However, the stuntmen, who come into harm’s way for those impressive stunts the audience loves to see, do not have a category yet.

Ryan Reynolds’ recent Instagram post addresses this injustice to the stunts community. He even took time to individually thank some of the stunt workers without whom the movie might not have been as exciting as it is. Among these, Reynolds’ stunt double Alex Kyshkovych was the first.

The Green Lantern star mentioned that he has been working with Kyshkovych since the first Deadpool movie. Reynolds also jokingly wrote:

I’d take a sledgehammer to the face for Alex. Or rather, I’d ask Alex to take a sledgehammer to the face for Alex.

In addition to Kyshkovich, Reynolds also thanked George Cottle, who was also the mastermind behind the stunts in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Daniel Stevens, who has been performing Wolverine’s stunts for years. The Proposal star tagged the official Instagram page of The Academy, stating that he would like to see them honor stuntmen.

Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt Rallied for Stunt Work to Be Recognized at the Oscars

Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt joined forces for the movie The Fall Guy earlier this year. The movie, in which Gosling stars as a stuntman himself, is a love letter to the stunt industry in Hollywood. Although it did not perform too well at the box office, it is easily one of the best action movies of the year.

Gosling and Blunt openly addressed the matter of stuntmen not getting the attention they deserve numerous times. They even paid a video tribute to the stunt community while they took the stage at the Oscars (via Entertainment Weekly). The video celebrated more than 100 years of Hollywood stunts including classic stunt feats of Charlie Chaplin, Harold Lloyd, and Buster Keaton.

In fact, the co-stars also discussed the negligence the stunt community faces in the industry in an interview with BBC. They once again reiterated that there should be a category at the Academy Awards for these unsung heroes.

They take the place of the celebrated actors, do the stunts, and then retreat into the shadows with no recognition whatsoever. With more and more big names taking a stand for this, hopefully, the stunt performers will get their deserved place in the industry.
