Ryan Reynolds Went To the Extremes: Celebrity Trainer Reveals Deadpool and Wolverine Star Had a Full Gym Sent To Him in London While Filming
Superhero movies are always fun to watch. Their larger-than-life characters and gravity-defying action sequences always thrill the viewers. However, the actors playing the lead roles often undergo tough physical transformations to do justice to their superhero characters. The upcoming movie Deadpool & Wolverine is no exception. Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman went through an intense training routine to bring their characters to life.
Fans often wonder about the preparation the actors did to portray the beloved superheroes. Renowned celebrity trainer Don Saladino recently revealed what Reynolds went through in order to maintain his physique during the tough filming schedule in London. Saladino, who trains many other Hollywood celebs, has earned a reputation for his innovative and highly effective training methods.
Saladino’s personalized programs, which include nutrition, exercise, and physical therapy, often consult with a team of experts to ensure optimal results. This approach has proven helpful for actors like Reynolds to achieve superhero physiques for their roles.
Ryan Reynolds’ Extreme Training Routine for Deadpool & Wolverine
In a recent interview with exercise scientist Dr. Mike Israetel, Saladino revealed what Ryan Reynolds went through in order to maintain his physique during the filming of Deadpool and Wolverine. Saladino revealed that a full gym, complete with a dumbbell rack, leg extension, and curl machines, and a Smith machine, was shipped directly to Reynolds’ residence, transforming a bedroom into a training facility. He explained,
“We just sent a full gym to London for Ryan for Deadpool and now we’re auctioning it off, Life Fitness basically. I worked out deal with Life Fitness where they gave him, I want to say at least 60 Grand in equipment, full dumbbell rack up to hundreds..”
Their conversation revealed the grueling schedule Reynolds faced, waking up early in the morning for training, then spending the day shooting and coming back at night.
“He was training every morning at like 4:30- 5 o’clock and then going to do shooting and stuff, shooting all day till it would get dark out and then you’d have an hour and a half car ride back from the set and by then it’s 7:00 at night and he’ll shower. He’s taking Zoom calls for his businesses and not getting a bed till 9: and rinse and repeat, rinse and repeat, rinse and repeat for, you know, 3-4 months. “
Saladino remarked that it’s quite brutal and said that people don’t understand what it is actually like to go through all that away from friends and family. He also revealed that Reynolds didn’t have any personal chefs as such. The production company would pack him a bag, and he’d leave with a bag of food for that night and the next morning.
Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine Preparation Made Him Hate His Training
While Reynolds went to a great extent to maintain his physique, his co-star, Hugh Jackman, faced his own challenges in preparing to reprise his iconic role. Despite taking years off from playing Wolverine, Jackman’s dedication to the role remained intact. He again went through intense training and a diet program to achieve the desired physical transformation.
In a recent post on X, Jackman candidly shared his experience, admitting that while he enjoyed the filming process and the time with the cast and crew, he “hated” the training and diet. Jackman confessed.
“I’ve loved every minute of making this movie. Well, not the training and diet, but the other 93.2%.”
Nevertheless, Jackman’s commitment to his craft is evident, as he once again embodied the iconic Wolverine and is looking quite impressive, just like the old days. From shipping entire gyms across continents to enduring tough training and diet routines, Reynolds and Jackman have once again raised the bar.
Deadpool & Wolverine will hit theaters on July 26, 2024.
