While talking about the teenage drama, he went on to mention his ex-girlfriend Blake Lively too. He said-
“I didn’t want to be on television; I was just passing the time with Dan—I wasn’t invested. And I’m not saying it’s good! I’m saying it’s just what it was.”
He even mentioned getting addicted to substance abuse and how Blake helped him to stay sober. He said-
“To be honest, I’ve never struggled with substance; Blake didn’t drink, and I think our relationship in some ways saved me from forcing myself to go down that road.”
Penn Badgley gives a huge credit to his Gossip Girl co-star as she saved him from destroying his life. He added-
“I was presented with the universal truth that not only does fame and wealth not make your life better or easier, but it can actually greatly complicate things and make you quite unhappy.”

During an interview with Allure, the American actor spoke about Gossip Girl and why she has never been a huge fan of Serena van der Woodsen. She said-
“People loved it, but it always felt a little personally compromising. You want to be putting a better message out there.”
She further added-
“I would not be proud to be the person who gave someone the cocaine that made them overdose and then shot someone and slept with someone else’s boyfriend.”
