Samuel L. Jackson Never Gave a Damn When a Star Wars Legend Stole His Crown as World’s Highest Grossing Actor, He Knew He’d Beat Him Soon
- Samuel L. Jackson has had the position of the highest-grossing actors of all time.
- He had no issues admitting that Star Wars star Harrison Ford was the one who did it.
- Unlike some other celebrities, Jackson does not mind watching his own movies.
It is no secret that Samuel L. Jackson is one of the most talented actors in Hollywood nor that his filmography is quite diverse and expansive. One fact that many might not have known about him is that he has held the title of the highest-grossing actor for a long time.
Interestingly, Star Wars alum Harrison Ford is the actor who has occasionally replaced Jackson’s name from that title. Much to everyone’s surprise, the Marvel star was not bothered about it at all one of the times Ford took the crown from him. If anything, Jackson was confident that he would have the title back within a year.
Samuel L. Jackson Was Unbothered About Harrison Ford Replacing Him as the Highest-Grossing Actor
Samuel L. Jackson made his professional theatre debut in 1980, but it was not until he met Spike Lee that he made his screen debut in 1988’s School Daze. He got the chance to shine through in Hollywood in 1994 when he was cast in Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction.
From there, it did not take him long to become a box-office star. He starred in high-grossing movies like Die Hard with a Vengeance, A Time to Kill, and Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. Interestingly, another Star Wars star replaced him as the highest-grossing star in 2020.
During an interview on The Graham Norton Show in October 2020, Norton pointed this out, and Jackson did not seem bothered at all. He calmly replied:
Yeah, I’ve been displaced by Harrison Ford again. I displaced him, he displaced me, but hey it’s only 70 mil. I got them covered in July. He’s lucky I’m not in Captain America 3.
The kind of confidence with which he spoke is telling enough of his knowledge about his influence on the box office. In July 2021, his movie Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, the sequel to 2017’s The Hitman’s Bodyguard, was released, and hilariously, it earned approximately $70.1 million worldwide (via Box Office Mojo).
Samuel L. Jackson Has No Issues Watching His Movies
Several celebrities have mentioned that they are not a fan of watching themselves on the screen. Jackson stands as an exception as he does not mind watching movies and shows he has starred in.
In the same interview with Graham Norton asked the Django Unchained star about it, he said:
Yes, I do. Like, more religiously, I do. I watch them at home. I go to the theater. I know when I have a movie that’s opening, I know it’s going to make at least a thousand dollars that weekend because I buy a thousand dollars worth of tickets and I give them to the church or I give them to somebody and their kids go.
He further said that he goes to the theatres to see how normal people are reacting to it because, during movie premieres, the attendees hardly criticize the project so attending movies in theatres.
