There are so many horror movie trailers out there so unforgivingly scary they scare the living daylights out of us. Many of them are better than many feature length horror movies of today’s times.

The Mothman Prophecies

Richard Gere and horror movies seldom mix well together. The Mothman Prophecies where Gere proved us all wrong. The trailer tells the story of a couple who are visited by a mysterious supernatural entity called the Mothman. Soon after that, strange things start to happen and weird voices start approaching the protagonist. But the voices are not there to hurt him. They are telling him a secret that Gere’s character will move heaven and hell to decipher at all costs.

It Follows

Why were the things or creatures or whatever they were following her? What do they want with her? There were so many questions we needed answers to after watching the trailer. It Follows told us a tale with the most minimal of contexts. It kept the hype running for weeks until the movie actually released a little while later.

A Cure For Wellness

Not all trailers need to have ghosts and spooky monsters. The element of mystery and suspense is sometimes enough to drive the plot into the horror genre. The trailer for A Cure For Wellness gives us Midsommar vibes.  Look at the way its so aesthetically well-made. The shots are brilliant. And the trailer manages to say so much in such a short amount of time. Insane asylums make for the best horror movie locations. Period.

The Fourth Kind

One night you are sleeping so peacefully. Then suddenly you know you are being taken away. The ones taking you away are not human. You return back to the same place the next day and nobody wants to believe you. Alien abductions may be hypothetical for many but if they are indeed true, the trailer shows just how horrifying they could be. We never felt so darn helpless until we watched this.

Silent Hill

Live action adaptations of video games seldom turn out to be good. Just look at the way the Resident Evil movies and the Hitman movies panned out. But Silent Hill is a rare exception. The trailer is just as scary as, if not scarier than, the movie itself. Watching the trailer will keep you awake at nights for days. If you still intend to watch it, then prepare for some really creepy nightmares.

Vacancy

If you have done a lot of travelling, you are bound to have stayed in a motel once in a while. For all those lonely travelers who prefer the life of a nomad, we got news for you – the world is a dark and twisted place.  Vacancy may not have a stellar cast but the trailer shows some ridiculous amount of promise. You will never look at cheap getaways the same way ever again.

The Visit

This small but poignant trailer begins with a very pleasant tone. Two kids leave for their grandparents’ place. They intend to enjoy their time there. But everything is not as it seems. Halfway through the trailer you realize this is not one of those happy drama movies. There’s more to the grandparents than what meets the eye. The grandmother is possessed. The grandfather is harboring a deep and dark secret. The Visit trailer has so many jump scare moments they are going to make you rip your sheets to pieces.
