MCU veteran Scarlett Johansson has had herself quite the year. The Black Widow actress had her first solo Marvel Studios outing hit both theater screens and TVs at home via Disney+ with its hybrid release. Shortly after that, she made headlines by filing a lawsuit against Disney for their treatment of her hero’s film and compensation for taking the film directly to streaming.

Marvel fans know that Black Widow star Scarlett Johansson has had a rocky relationship with Marvel Studios and Disney this year. But Kevin Feige revealed she would be returning to Marvel in a top-secret project, though as a producer.

After the day-and-date release of her first solo movie on Disney+ through its Premiere Access service robbed her of her Box Office earnings, the legal battle became heated before ultimately settling for somewhere in the $40 million range. The actress fought her own Civil War with the movie studio while pregnant with her first child with her husband Colin Jost (Saturday Night Live).

This coupled with the fact that her character Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow died in Endgame, had fans give up hope of the Golden Globe-winning actress ever being involved in the Marvel Cinematic Universe again. Scarlett Johansson was also replaced as the voice of Black Widow by Lake Bell in What If…?.

The Black Widow lawsuit did come to some sort of settlement between the studio and Johansson and bonds seem to have been at least somewhat mended, which became more apparent when it was announced that ScarJo will be returning to work with Disney and Marvel Studios – this time in the form of a producer.

Her time with behemoth Marvel Studios seemed to be as over as Robert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark AKA Iron Man) and Chris Evan (Steve Rogers AKA Captain America). Her fellow Avengers who ended their stories also were replaced in What If…?.

And while she may be behind the camera Marvel fans are happy to have her back. The project is rumored to be an A-Force movie focusing on all the female superheroes of the Marvel Universe like Carol Danvers AKA Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen), Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lily), and Gamora (Zoe Saldana).

While promoting Sing 2 (2021) Scarlett Johansson, who voices Ash, spoke to Collider about her feeling returning to Marvel after all the drama, saying:

“As far as Marvel goes, it’s like working with family there. Marvel has some of the best IP ever and you can really dream big there and nothing’s ever off the table and you kind of throw all these blue sky ideas around and see what sticks. It’s like a creative playground that’s just like a dream. Again, I have that shorthand with my fellow creatives there that comes from being in the world for 10 years with those guys.”
