Saturday Night actress Rachel Sennott narrates her story of being arrested for CBD

Actress Rachel Sennott, who plays Rosie Shuster in the upcoming movie Saturday Night, recently appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. During her conversation, the actress shared an incident of her being arrested while she was on her trip to the Cayman Islands. She shared with Jimmy Fallon,

I got arrested. I got so well rested back from the trip, arrested. I was arrested for CBD in the Cayman Islands, which is embarrassing. It’s actually sad. It’s like you want to be arrested for something cool, but to be arrested for something like CBD is a little pathetic. And it was totally my fault too.

The actress goes on to describe that before she boarded her flight to the Cayman Islands, she didn’t look at the travel laws. The authorities at the airport assumed that she might possess weed for some reason. She noted that the security flagged her and asked a lady cop to search her bag. For context she revealed that she is a bag person and usually carries a lot of bags with her and continued;

She’s going through the bag. She’s opening my tampons. She’s reading my journal, and then she goes into a bag inside of a bag, and she finds my mom, Grass. It’s like a liquid death of weed. Like, it’s fake weed. It’s CBD, basically, but it’s made to look like weed.

The actress added that she was immediately arrested and was asked where she got it [Mom’s Grass which was assumed to be weed] from, to which she answered ‘Erewhon’. Sennott added that the authorities had taken away her passport and phone, but by the time she had texted her lawyer, ‘I’m in jail.’ The young actress mentioned that she was allowed to make a phone call, but only to someone who was in the Cayman Islands, and she was traveling alone.

Rachel Sennott credits her release from the situation to her 23-year-old assistant Claire, who got worried about the actress’ whereabouts and reached out to her entertainment lawyer. The actress mentioned that her lawyer came to the Cayman Islands, and they worked the situation out with her getting an ‘adult caution’. She also revealed that she got a mugshot.

Sennott, in her interview with THR, mentioned that she spoke to Rosie Shuster and heard her voice and laugh. The actress mentioned that she asked her if she was freaking out on the night of October 11, 1975, to which Shuster said that she was, adding that they all knew that it was a big deal but didn’t comprehend how much.

Sennott shared Reitman and Kenan used some of the words and phrases that were used by Rosie Shuster in real life. She further noted that talking to her on call and hearing her point of view helped her in her preparation to play her on-screen. Talking further about Shuster, Sennott added,

I could tell that she was definitely good with people, and she was good with different types of personalities. If you have a show like SNL with all these different talented creators and writers, there are going to be clashing personalities, and she seemed like someone who could handle it well.

The actress was asked if she has been to a live taping of SNL, to which she mentioned that she went to see Billie Eilish’s taping. She also expressed sadness over not being able to see Ayo Edebiri’s taping in person due to work commitments but mentioned she rushed home to watch her show live.

Sennott went on to reveal that the two of them had met in college while they were doing comedy and couldn’t make it to the elite sketch group. She said to watch Edebiri perform on SNL was very special for her.

Saturday Night comes out on October 11, 2024.
