The lives of performers are filled with highs and lows, and oftentimes, in order to deliver the energy and entertain the crowd, they have to endure a physical and emotional toll. Many singers have to go through this strain night after night, which affects their vocal health along with the feeling of burnout.
Some of the biggest names in music, like Justin Bieber, Sam Smith, Selena Gomez, and Lady Gaga, had to take a break from performing live in order to prioritize their health. And just like them, Adele has announced her indefinite break from live performances.
Adele’s Hiatus Announcement and Fans’ Reaction
There is hardly any accolade left for Adele to win in her music career. From her breakout album 19 to her latest album 30, she has always broken record after record and has definitely etched her name as one of the greatest singers of all time.
In a recent concert in Munich, the singer declared that she would be taking a long break from performing live. However, this might not be a complete surprise for her fans, as the singer had previously taken breaks to focus on her health and personal life. According to USA Today, the singer said in her Munich concert,
I have 10 shows left after this, back in my (Las Vegas) residency … but after that, I will not see you for an incredibly long time, and I will hold you dear in my heart for that whole length of my break. And I will fantasize about these shows and any shows that I’ve done over the last three years, and I’ll really, really hold them in the bottom of my heart forever.
Fans who love her soulful voice and who attend her shows regularly know that it all comes at a cost. They have seen her struggles with vocal issues earlier as well. As soon as the singer announced her break, fans expressed the necessity of her decision online.

Adele mentioned earlier in an interview with ZDF and also in her Munich concert that she won’t be focusing on music for a while now and will try to enjoy the life she has built over the past few years.
Adele has not gone on a world tour since 2016-17 after her 25 album. The singer had taken breaks in between each of her albums, and the duration of each break was greater than its previous one. Although this might be a bit disappointing for some fans, Adele can be sure of getting full support from her fans.
Adele’s Struggle With Health and Performance Over the Years
Adele’s debut album 19 was just the beginning of her journey to becoming one of the best-selling artists of all time. However, with great success came great challenges, and the demands of constant touring started affecting her voice early on.
Adele had to go through surgery for vocal cord hemorrhage in 2011. It was crucial as it had the risk of permanently damaging her voice. But she overcame it and returned with one of the best-selling albums of all time, 21.
But again in 2017, she had to cancel two of her major shows at London’s Wembley Arena due to vocal issues. Adele shared that she was already under medications to keep her voice safe, but it didn’t help. She also refused to lip-sync as it would not reflect her true self. According to The Sun, she suffered from bronchitis at the time.
Again in 2023, after her performance, The Sun reported that Adele was picked up by her team members as she collapsed backstage due to a Sciatica attack. It again made her take a break during the mid-show later.
Adele again faced setbacks when she was preparing for her Las Vegas residency in 2022. There were logistical issues along with COVID-19. However, she managed to pull that off after one year, and it has been a huge success.
According to the BBC, Adele has shown interest in revisiting her passion for English literature and earning a degree in it. Maybe, she might be seen exploring that in the future, along with spending time with her family.
