“She doesn’t need the Scream franchise”: Melissa Barrera Gets Much Needed Fan Support as She Opens Up on Getting Fired From Scream 7
After the startling firing of talented actress Melissa Barrera from the Scream franchise was announced last year, fans have continued to support her as she breaks silence on her departure.
Melissa Barrera was one of the leading cast members in the last Scream movie and was set to reprise her role as Samantha Carpenter in the sixth installment. However, fate had something else in mind. Following the actress’s opinion on the Israel-Hamas conflict and her social media posts, Spyglass fired the Bed Rest star from the franchise. Recently, Barrera reflected on the past, and fans couldn’t stop supporting her on social media platforms.
Melissa Barrera Receives Fans’ Support After Breaking Silence on Firing From Scream Franchise
The Scream franchise released its sixth installment last year, but following the departure of two of the film’s main characters, the seventh film won’t include Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega. Barrera, who played Ortega’s sister in the last Scream, was fired due to her social media post about the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict.
However, despite her departure, the actress broke silence on the concern and expressed gratitude for her career. Melissa Barrera recently attended the Sundance Film Festival for her upcoming horror film Your Monster. She reflected on the past and what she learned from it. During the event, the actress said (via Deadline):
“Honestly, I think I finally am becoming who I’m supposed to be in life.”
Scream Six was a hit project starring the two actresses as sisters and the new target of Ghostface. However, now that both: Ortega and Barrera aren’t part of the franchise, it will have its own challenges and replacements. As the I See You star expressed her thoughts recently, fans have come forward to support Melissa Barrera through social media:

Following Barrera’s firing from Scream 7, the news of Jenna Ortega leaving the franchise broke as well. However, it was reported that the Wednesday star had to depart due to scheduling conflicts, and considering her commitment to other projects, Ortega was left with no choice.
Melissa Barrera Talks About Reuniting With the Scream Cast Members
A few days back, Mellisa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, and other cast members from the Scream franchise reunited for a photo, after which Deadline asked the rising star to reflect on the reunion. Replying to the reporter, the El Hotel star said:
“We’re family for life. If we’re ever in the vicinity of each other, we always find each other and that’s what happened at that event. When we find each other, we just want to spend the night with each other, and nothing is ever going to change that.”
Barrera also mentioned being proud of herself for the contribution she has made so far, and following her and Ortega’s departure there has been no official confirmation from Spyglass about the replacement, or the future of Scream 7. However, there have been reports suggesting that the makers are eyeing to bring back Neve Campbell and Patrick Dempsey. So keep coming back until we gather every noteworthy news for you!
Scream 6 is currently available to stream on Paramount Plus.
