Selena Gomez, who has been actively vocal about Mexican immigrants and advocated their rights, recently, broke down in a now-deleted video while talking about Donald Trump’s decision to deport them. As soon as the songstress’ video on the Instagram story went live, she faced a massive backlash from social media users and came under the Republican fire. A lot of people bashed her for taking a side with Mexican immigrants and not caring about American people getting r*ped or murdered.
Born in Grand Prairie, Texas, Emilia Pérez actress is a natural-born U.S. citizen. However, in previous interviews, she often identified herself proudly as a third-generation American-Mexican. She even executive-produced Netflix’s Living Undocumented which was about Mexican immigrants.
Even then Gomez came under a lot of scrutiny as her movie Emilia Pérez received 13 nominations at the Oscars and won the Golden Globes award. People couldn’t accept the ill-portrayal of the Mexican stereotypical notions and trans-community.
Why is Selena Gomez facing internet backlash?
Selena Gomez, recently took to her Instagram story to shed light upon Donald Trump‘s immediate action on the immigrants after taking over the house. In the now-deleted video, the singer-actor said via Rolling Stone, “All my people are getting attacked, the children. I don’t understand.” She further continued in the teary-filled video clip,
I’m so sorry, I wish I could do something but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise.
But as soon as the video went live, Gomez started to face the wrath of the Republic fire. She received an immense hatred online, so much so that she had to take down her video. A few of them lashed out at her for calling the immigrants ‘my people’, others criticized her for not caring about the Americans despite living in America and being a billionaire.

After this huge backlash, Gomez issued another statement on her Instagram story which can be read, “Apparently, it’s not ok to show empathy for people.” However, some of her fans extended their support to her and pointed out how the Only Murders in the Building actress has always been vocal about immigrants.
US Senate Candidate Sam Parker targeted Selena Gomez after this incident
After Gomez’s tearful video made quite a stir on the internet, US Senate Candidate, Sam Parker targeted the songstress and called her out for her gesture. Parker shared the clip from his alternate X account and tweeted, “Selena Gomez picked illegals over America… Maybe Selena should be deported, too.” He further reshared it from his campaign account:
Selena Gomez didn’t stay silent about this. She fired back at Sam Parker and in an Instagram story, she wrote, “Oh Mr. Parker, Mr. Parker. Thanks for the laugh, and the threat.” The songstress who wanted to show her emotions didn’t think would get entangled in a political uproar.
