“She is my wife”: Shakira’s Stalker ‘Husband’ Arrested After Absurd Claims
Often described as the Queen of Latin Music, Shakira will always be held in a place of respect for extending the global reach of Latino singers. Her popularity across the world knows no bounds. It is no wonder that she will have die-hard fans worldwide. However, a line gets crossed when fan admiration turns to obsession.
Celebrities often have little privacy due to the constant paparazzi attention and curiosity of fans who want to know everything under the sun about them. It is one thing to read tabloid papers and have a lot of merchandise from your favorite artist, but it is a completely different matter when it borders on stalking. Celebrities like Sandra Bullock and Winona Ryder have previously talked about their harrowing experiences with fan stalkers that even gave them PTSD. Recently, Shakira had to face a disturbing and scary stalker experience that shook her and her team.
Shakira’s delusional stalker “husband” arrested outside her home
According to reports by NBC 6, a man named Daniel John Valtier was arrested for one count of stalking and taken into custody outside the home of Shakira. Detectives and officials met with Shakira’s security team, who gave them two recordings and various social media posts made by the man from December 30 through January 2. The man seemed steadfast in his belief that he is married to Shakira and he talks to her all the time.

On January 8, 2023, Valtier took a cab to the singer’s home. According to the affidavit, he was approaching Shakira’s gate when an off-duty detective saw him and called the Miami Beach police. According to the cab driver, he did not pay his fare of $70.05. Valtier told the officials later that the person who lived in that house was supposed to pay.
Valtier was detained and taken to the Miami Beach Police Department holding facility before being shifted to TGK. He has been charged with stalking and the judge doubled his bond from $50,000 to $100,000 after careful consideration and stating that a $50,000 bond may not be enough to protect Shakira and the community. The judge opened up to NBC 6 and said,
“I have real concerns right now because this man is delusional saying she’s his wife and that’s not true. That is very concerning to the court. I’m very concerned. … Then I have the same man in court making comments to me that suggest he believes that he has the right to be with this person and that is absolutely not true.”

What is known of Shakira’s stalker Daniel John Valtier so far?
Daniel John Valtier is 56 years old and resides in Texas. In a video shared by NBC 6 on Instagram, he is seen saying that Shakira is his “wife” and that he talks to her “all the time.” He even claimed that he talked to the singer about her children, Milan and Sasha, whom she shares with her ex, Gerard Piqué.
He even managed to send her gifts like chocolates, wine, and sentimental items between the end of the year in 2023 and the beginning of the year in 2024. He made continuous posts on Instagram about his delusion, which prompted the singer’s advisors to reach out and give him a warning to stop. Despite all of that, he did not seem to give up and eventually turned up at his home. In an Instagram post from October, he is seen at the peak of his obsession when he says,
“Shakira, she wants to be American like her father, and share the rest of her life with me. We will own a trucking business, sing songs, promote, manage and own a garment manufacturing corporation worldwide.”
The judge ordered that Valtier have zero contact with the singer, including no contact on social media, no sending of letters or gifts, no emailing, and no one else speaking to her on his behalf, unless required for court appearances.
Valter is also facing a new felony for trying to defraud a hired vehicle.
