“She knew what she was getting into”: Succession Star Brian Cox Blasts Meghan Markle for Playing the Victim After Chris Rock Eviscerated Her
Emmy Award-winning actor Brain Cox’s feelings about the Royal Family are well known, as the Scottish actor has long been an outspoken abolitionist. He is now about to annoy the Royal couple with his divisive views, as he recently criticized Meghan Markle in a new interview.
Remember that Chris Rock recently saved some of his most edgy material for the Duchess of Sussex in his live Netflix standup special, in which he also discussed Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith. The comedian chastised Meghan Markle and Prince Harry for alleged racism in the royal family.
And after Rock, Brain Cox also discussed one of the British monarchy’s ongoing schisms, namely the Sussexes’ tumultuous relationship. In his recent interview with Haute Living New York, the Succession star made some startling claims.
He slammed Markle for marrying Prince Harry as part of her long-term “ambition.” Also, he accused that she joined the royal family in order to distance themselves from the established “system.”
Meghan Markle Allegedly Had ‘Childhood Dreams of Marrying a Prince’
Brian Cox claimed Meghan Markle had childhood dreams of marrying Prince Charming while arguing that the United Kingdom should not have a monarchy. Also, later in the interview, the Emmy winner stated that the United Kingdom should “move on” from the royals.
“You can’t go into a system where somebody’s already been trained to behave in a certain kind of way and then just expect them to cut themselves off,” he said of her time in the Royal Family. “I mean, she knew what she was getting into,” the actor added.
Cox stated that the Suits actress should not be surprised by the uproar caused by her and her husband’s departure from the royal family. However, in December 2022, the Golden Globe winner defended the royal couple, telling Good Morning Britain that they went through “something clearly traumatic” before taking a step back.
Some may take Cox’s comments to be anti-Prince Harry and his wife, but Cox has previously spoken out against their treatment as well.
What Could Have Prompted Brian Cox’s Remark?
Brian Cox’s comments followed the release of the couple’s Harry & Meghan docuseries on Netflix. Moreover, the actor’s remarks came in the wake of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s coronation invitation, as well as news of Princess Lilibet Diana’s christening, which was attended by no member of the Royal Family.
Following the announcement of the ceremony, it was clear that Prince Harry’s children were officially using their titles as Prince and Princess. Some questioned why the Sussexes chose to use the titles despite their distance from the Royal Family. A decision was made in response to unending abuse directed at the couple in the tabloid press, on social media, and, according to the Sussexes, from the Royal Family.
Early in her relationship with Prince Harry, rumors circulated that Meghan Markle was only interested in the royal because she wanted to become a UK princess. According to his memoir, Prince Harry persuaded his wife that she would be as beloved as his late mother, Princess Diana, among the general public and the media.
Instead, the American actress went through a jarring transition that strained her already strained relationship with her Royal in-laws. She and Prince Harry reportedly renounced their royal titles just two years after their marriage.
