Ryan Gosling On How Margot Robbie Helped Him Get Into The Ken Energy
Ryan Gosling’s portrayal of Ken became the talk of tinsel town as soon as the trailer for Barbie was released. His blonde hair, an enormous amount of fake tan, and washboard abs all sum up a spectacular transformation of Ryan Gosling. During an interview with the New York Times, The Notebook actor spoke about Barbie and how did he prepped up for the much-hyped character of Ken. He even pointed out that he was bribed by his co-star Margot Robbie during the filming of the Greta Gerwig movie. He recalled how Margot Robbie helped him get into the Ken energy. He mentioned-
“She left a pink present with a pink bow, from Barbie to Ken, every day while we were filming. They were all beach-related. Like puka shells, or a sign that says ‘Pray for surf.’ Because Ken’s job is just beach. I’ve never quite figured out what that means. But I felt like she was trying to help Ken understand, through these gifts that she was giving.”
On being asked what was the weirdest present gifted by Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling mentioned-
“She gave me a book as a joke about horses [If there is anything Ken loves as much as Barbie in the film, it’s horses.] and I read it and loved it. I feel it would make a great film. It was very unexpected. And I thought, do I have to make this movie? Does Margot have to produce it?”
Ryan Gosling’s Barbie created a lot of buzz ay before its theatrical release.
Ryan Gosling On Working With Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie
During the promotion of Barbie, Ryan Gosling was asked about how did he feel after reading the script of Greta Gerwig’s doll-based project. The actor aid-
“Well, the title page said “Barbie and Ken,” and the “and Ken” was scratched out. It was obviously not what I expected. It’s so elegantly and brilliantly designed by Greta and Margot to be like a theme park or something, where you don’t really need a map. It’s already engineered so that you hit all the spots they want you to hit without you knowing it. I went on the ride and I’m still going on it. I don’t want to leave the park. They are kicking me out. “The park is closing, sir.” But I ordered churros and they are coming, I swear.”
While talking about his preparation for Ken’s role, the Drive actor said-
“It was a hard thing to prep for in a way because you can’t go shadow him. They had written the part with such empathy for his plight. And there was such nuance and insight into what that experience might be that when I was in my backyard one day and I did see a Ken face down in the mud by a squished lemon, I thought, “Oh, yeah, his story does need to be told.”
Barbie is currently running in theaters and will be available for streaming later on the OTT platforms.
