“She was just brain dead”: Megan Thee Stallion Faced the Most Gut-wrenching Situation Just 1 Year Before Her Shooting Incident
- In 2020, Megan Thee Stallion got involved in a shooting incidence with rapper Tory Lanez.
- A year before the incident, she had to make a difficult situation for her mother who was diagnosed with brain tumor.
- The Savage singer had a tough time gaining back her confidence after her mother's tragic demise.
Megan Thee Stallion suffered a huge tragedy before she got involved in the shooting incident that caused a lot of turbulence in her life for years. Eventually, rapper Tory Lanez was proven to be the convict and sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment, but it left the Girls in the Hood singer scarred for life.
Losing a loved one is hard for everyone and the Mamushi rapper stands as no exception. She began gaining recognition in 2017 and by 2019, she was a proper rap star. Besides the success of her single Hot Girl Summer, 2019 was riddled with grief for her as she had lost her mother, Holly Thomas. In her new documentary, Megan Thee Stallion: In Her Words, she has gotten more candid than ever about her loss.
Megan Thee Stallion Had to Make a Difficult Decision About Her Mother’s Life
Sometimes, parents are their children’s biggest cheerleaders. Holly Thomas was also one such parent who supported her daughter in her career and always encouraged her to keep going. Perhaps this persistence has made Megan Thee Stallion so determined and ambitious even in the face of difficulties.
Stallion has been quite open about the grief she felt after the passing of her mother. In her recently released Prime Video documentary, Megan Thee Stallion: In Her Words, she revealed how she lost Thomas to a brain tumor in March 2019 and had to make a rather difficult decision for her mother’s sake.
In the documentary (via PEOPLE), she stated that Thomas began having “back-to-back seizures” which broke the songstress’ heart. Her mother’s death is shown through an animation sequence in the film as she says:
They had to put her under. She was just brain dead. So I stayed up there every day. I was spending the night at the hospital. I just was praying that she could shake back from it.
Unfortunately, the situation did not change as her mother’s health condition showed no signs of improvement. Consequently, the Savage rapper had no choice other than to pull the plug to relieve Thomas of the pain she was going through.
Megan Thee Stallion Refused to Be Deterred by the Grief of Losing Her Mother
Kids usually learn what they watch their parents do. Stallion watched her mother do recording sessions as a rapper under the name Holly-Wood. So, it does not come as much of a surprise that the Don’t Stop rapper began writing songs when she was a teenager.
Thomas had Stallion wait until she was 21 before pursuing rapping as a profession, and then, she was her daughter’s biggest fan. The five-time BET Hip-Hop award winner refused to cancel her plans even after Thomas’ passing. She said:
Ya’ll know that 2019 has been really tough for me. I don’t wanna cancel none of my shows, and I didn’t want to stop going, because that’s not what my mama would want me to do. She was my number one fan, through all the a**-shakin’ and cussin’.
Despite this positive mindset, Stallion found it difficult to move forward. She reflected on how losing her biggest source of support and go-to advisor led to losing her confidence. She had already lost her father when she was in her freshman year of high school so her mother was all she had. Thankfully, she eventually began to regain her footing even without her mother who must be very proud of how far the songstress has come.
