“She would deny”: Mark Consuelos Hated His Daughter Lola for Being Ashamed of His ‘Riverdale’ Fame
Mark Consuelos, who plays Hiram Lodge on the hit CW show Riverdale, recently discussed his daughter’s initial unease with his fame on Julia Cunningham and Jess Cagle’s The Jess Cagle Show on SiriusXM. Consuelos revealed in the interview that his daughter Lola Consuelos frequently disavowed his involvement with the hit show when he was on set.
Lola Consuelos’ Discomfort With Her Father’s Fame
At no point during his four years on Riverdale did Consuelos’ daughter express enthusiasm for her father’s participation in the show. Whenever anyone asked about his appearances on Riverdale, Lola Consuelos would either play coy or lie flat-out.
“She would deny. It’d be like, ‘Is your dad on Riverdale?’ And she was in high school and she’s like, ‘I’m not sure.’ And like, ‘You’re not sure if your dad’s on Riverdale?’ ‘I think so. Maybe.'”
Consuelos was hurt by this because, he said, some of his fans felt threatened by him because he played a villain on the show.
“I played a bad guy, so people would sometimes move across the street. They wouldn’t come up to me too much because Hiram was such an evil villain.”

Consuelos said that the discomfort his daughter felt about him being famous began when she was a teenager. Mark Consuelos was frequently recognized by Riverdale’s devoted fanbase when he returned home from filming at the all-girls school near which the Consuelos family lived. As a high school student, Lola Consuelos found all the attention exhausting.
“She did not like the attention. We live near an all-girls school that would get out at a certain time, and if I was home from shooting, it was like, oh my God. The fans of that show, I think are the closest to the fans of when I was on All My Children, like that invested in the show. That kind of love and devotion to those characters. Good and bad.”
Although it deeply hurt Consuelos to see his daughter embarrassed by his work, he knew Lola Consuelos was probably going through a phase.

Mark Consuelos On Navigating Fame As A Parent
Consuelos treated his daughter kindly and never pressured her to accept his fame. Instead, he gave her space to come around when she was ready. He admitted that “it was difficult.” That so much interest was too much for her.
Following his departure from Riverdale, Consuelos has put all his energy into his new role as co-host on Live with Kelly and Mark. He has been involved with the show for a long time, appearing as a guest host or presenter dozens of times.
However, his new role as co-host comes with a whole new set of expectations and challenges. Nonetheless, Mark Consuelos has set an example of the importance of family over fame and success by putting his daughter’s happiness ahead of his own.
