Acclaimed celebrities Scarlett Johansson and Chris Evans have been sharing a long-standing amicable rapport, occasionally making fans wish they were a couple. But little did fans know that Chris Evans’s Captain America looks up to his friend’s on-screen character.
Scarlett Johansson and Chris Evans have played two of the original Avengers, Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow, and Steve Rogers aka Captain America for long. However, their friendship exceeds beyond the silver screen, and once the actor himself revealed that his iconic character idolizes Johansson’s Black Widow.
Chris Evans Revealed His Captain America Admires Black Widow
There were numerous rumors about Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson dating as they indisputably look adorable together. However the pair has never confirmed if they dated, but what they flaunt is their enduring camaraderie! It has been over a decade since the duo worked together in the teen heist comedy The Perfect Score in 2004 which marked the beginning of their incredible bond. Evans told Entertainment Tonight:
“There’s a void that they each fill for each other, and I think they’ve each kind of had to face a little bit of, like, a destruction of a belief system along the way. They’ve each leaned on one another for different reasons. I think in a lot of ways Cap certainly looks up to Black Widow.”
The actor explained their real-life friendship influenced the on-screen bond between the two iconic stars. The Gray Man star claimed that this long-standing bond helps them portray their on-screen relationship as genuine and believable. Evans added:
“She’s always been a little wiser, a little more experienced, a little more callused in the way the world really is… I think in the past couple of years before we pick up in [Infinity War], they’ve really kind of become this rock for one another.”
The Not Another Teen Movie star revealed that Captain America looks up to Black Widow as she isn’t a typical superhero, but a warrior who has an amazing experience and is wise. Johansson’s character has earned superpowers through hard work and possesses a complex personality.
Scarlett Johansson Convinced Chris Evans To Join MCU
Scarlett Johansson is not just a friend of Chris Evans but a real keeper. The Lost in Translation star was the one who persuaded Evans to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe after she got cast in her iconic role as Black Widow who’s an exceptional spy and S.H.I.E.L.D. agent.
While speaking to Variety, Johansson opened up about how she discussed Captain America with Chris Evans and helped him understand the significance of the universe. She said:
“I talked to him a little about it because I had already signed on to do Iron Man. Of course, the pressure wasn’t on my shoulders like it was on Chris’. I was playing a character that Marvel was invested in, but we didn’t know if the audience was going to be totally behind the Widow at that point. It was like I was dipping my toe in. He was taking the full brunt of the production on his shoulders. It can feel like a gilded cage at times.”
Marvel knew Chris Evans was the perfect choice to play the all-American war hero, but the actor was initially reluctant to accept the offer. At that time, Scarlett Johansson already signed to play Natasha Romanoff and met Evans to help him understand the offer he received.
