Dexter Fletcher talks about working with Ana de Armas and Chris Evans

The two co-stars Chris Evans and Ana de Armas are old pals. The Knives Out stars reunited to make this movie come to life. The director of this film, Dexter Fletcher, expressed how comfortable the two made him feel while working on the project. He said, “There’s a great friendship there and a familiarity,”

The Rocketman director further stated,

“They really appreciate each other’s work. They’re real fans of one another is what I quickly cottoned onto. He really makes her laugh. I suppose they both do, because she’s very funny as well. They sit in a corner telling jokes to each other and talking about, I don’t know what half the time, but they’re laughing and I’m like, ‘Guys, do you want to do this scene?’ and they’re like, ‘Yeah, yeah.’”

The fun-loving duo also inspired him to experiment and try out new things on camera. He really appreciated the companionship and understanding the two have for one another. His words reflect gratitude for their bond,

There’s that familiarity with each other. They’re both on the same page, as it were. The best was just leaving it alone. I just sat in the corner and let them get over with it.”

Dexter Fletcher claims the movie characters are old-fashioned

A spy rom-com may seem very modern, but the characters are pretty old-fashioned at their very core, according to the director of this movie. He said, “I like that it was sort of old-fashioned in this way,”

He then elaborated on the nature of the characters, and who he visioned them to be. Fletcher talked about how the blend of two polar opposite characters makes it more fun to watch. He claims that although it may seem the Captain America: The First Avenger actor is the hero of the movie, he actually isn’t. Well, he partly is, the hero of the romance, while de Armas is the action hero. The two balance each other flawlessly. The director added,

“But she’s a very modern character, as is he really. I say he’s a hero in the film, but a hero of romance. He’s not an action hero. He’s a romance hero and she’s the action hero. She’s terrible at romance. She’s awful at it, but he’s really good at it because he goes above and beyond.”
