Showrunner’s Real Message Behind The Spiderwick Chronicles Is Why Everyone Should Watch it: “There’s a lot of shame that comes with these emotions”
Teenagers are the future and hence their mental state is a crucial factor. The Spiderwick Chronicles is probably an innovative way to shed light on the psychology of teenagers. The series features Christian Slater, Lyon Daniels, Noah Cottrell, and Joe Bryant, among others.
The series is inspired by the children’s fantasy books by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black, The Spiderwick Chronicles. It genuinely addresses the most important aspect of a teenager and provides necessary solutions for it too.
The Spiderwick Chronicles Gives an Important Message
Directed by Kat Coiro(the first two episodes), The Spiderwick Chronicles(2024) brings with it a genuine concern for the modern generation. The creator of the series, Aron Eli Coleite, revealed the actual message behind the show in his recent interview.
Coleite explained to Reactor that this show is a really good platform to discuss what the teenagers of the modern era are going through.
“This felt like a show that was an opportunity to talk about what teenagers are really going through, their mental health journeys, their neurodiversity journeys, and an opportunity to not only talk about it but to destigmatize it. I think there’s a lot of shame that comes with these emotions and we want them to go away.”
The show not only talks about the problems but also understands that teenagers feel awkward and nervous while talking about them. The aim of the show is also to destigmatize this kind of emotion and help teenagers open up about their mental stability.
Therefore, by watching the show, teenagers can clearly understand that having depression or any related mental issue is relevant to both kids and adults. However, by communicating, they can actually be at peace.
How Did the Character Calliope Come About?
The 2024 adaptation of The Spiderwick Chronicles features a new character named Calliope, portrayed by Alyvia Alyn Lind plays the role. The Daybreak director mentioned that the team introduced this character as a sidekick to Mulgarath. Coleite has always been fond of Lind and therefore, he really wanted her to join the team as Calliope.

Coleite and others had a great time discussing what kind of a character they wanted Calliope to be in the series. At first, he came forward with the idea of presenting Calliope as a goblin-like character. However, DiTerlizzi and Black are against this character display because goblins are little but fierce creatures, and that’s not how Calliope should come up. They said:
“No! She can’t be a goblin—goblins are little creatures. They’re smaller. They’re fiercer. They’re more like really angry dogs. And that’s not what this character is.”
Coleite further mentioned that it was really a blessing how DiTerlizzi and Black invested themselves in the show. It was only because both of them worked intimately that Calliope got her final character traits.
