Actor Dylan O’Brien rose to prominence with his portrayal of Stiles Stilinski in MTV’s supernatural series Teen Wolf from 2011 to 2017. The series was based on Jeph Loeb and Matthew Weismen’s movie of the same name, which recounts the story of a young wolf who goes on to defend his town from supernatural creatures and other threats. Tyler Posey, Tyler Hoechlin, Colton Hayes, and more also starred on the show.

The original movie’s allusions that inspired the premise of the series are the only connection the movie and the series share. Upon release, Teen Wolf received positive comments from the critics and the audience. Dylan O’Brien in a recent interview answered a fan question about why Stiles didn’t get a shirtless scene in the series.

Dylan O’Brien answers the much-asked question related to Teen Wolf

In an interview with Men’s Health, a fan asked Dylan O’Brien, who is gearing up to release his biographical comedy-sketch movie Saturday Night, about his Teen Wolf character not being shirtless for a single scene in the entire show.

Another fan said the reason is that Dylan O’Brien is ripped but Stiles isn’t supposed to be. But the actor decided to clarify by stating,

I was never shirtless because there was no interest in me being shirtless or by the cast. It’s certainly not because there is any sort of secret ripeness.

Back in 2015, ahead of season five’s premiere, executive producer Jeff Davis joined the cast of Teen Wolf during their PaleyFest stage. During the question and answer session, a fan asked O’Brien and Davis if Stiles would ever take his shirt off in the series. Fans believe that it’s infuriating to not have a single scene of Stiles without his shirt when it was possible for the makers to get one shot of it.

The actor and the executive producer agreed that they might have missed their chance or the moment when they could have shown Stiles shirtless. One thing that fans were disappointed and sad about was O’Brien’s decision to not return for the Teen Wolf movie. He explained to Variety,

It was a difficult decision. A lot went into it. The show couldn’t be more dear to me. It was the first thing I ever did, and so many people there are extremely dear to me. It was something I was trying to make work, but it all happened very fast. We didn’t know that it was happening, and they kind of just threw it at us a little bit, which is fine because we all love the show. We were trying to figure it out.

The actor added that ultimately he decided that his character had left in a really good place and he wanted to leave it there. O’Brien wished the team all the best.

Dylan O’Brien recalls auditioning for Frozen 2

Dylan O’Brien appeared on Late Night With Seth Meyers, where the host asked the actor about his failed audition for Frozen 2 in 2019. The animated movie saw actress Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel return as Anna and Elsa. O’Brien recalled,

I knew that I probably wasn’t going to get it, but they’re looking for sort of multitalented, multi-hyphenate people who can act and sing. I didn’t check, to be honest, probably either. I sang across a desk to the casting assistant. I know I can’t sing. But I wanted to do it because sometimes it’s just good.

O’Brien, who is very often known as the Internet’s boyfriend, mentioned that he doesn’t always feel like a real actor because he’s not. The actor continued to share his experience of the audition by mentioning that the casting director asked him to get to the chorus so that she could check if he had a certain range.

The actor said he’d never forget that the cast directing said ‘two Okays’ and thanked him for coming with adding that they’d need a bit of a stronger singer. Dylan O’Brien did not mention which part he auditioned for.
