The fourth episode of the Star Wars show Skeleton Crew is now out and fans cannot help but notice the glaringly obvious parallels it has had with an Oscar-nominated movie. This show is the recent addition to the ever-expanding sci-fi franchise, the foundations of which George Lucas laid almost half a century ago.

After the disappointing performance of the last Star Wars show, The Acolyte, released earlier this year, all hopes were placed on Skeleton Crew, which has luckily come through. Recently, the show’s fourth episode was dropped, and it has quite a few parallels with Everything Everywhere All at Once that some fans might not have noticed.

A fan on Reddit posted an edit that showed the parallels between the two projects. The first clip shows Neel (Robert Timothy Smith) offering his food to two hungry kids as Hayna Strix (Hala Finley) watches on in admiration and the two even have a conversation about the conflict between the Troik and the Hattan. At one point, the conversation turns to how lucky Neel and the residents of At Attin are since they don’t have to face conflict the likes of which Hayna has grown up.

This scene is like the one between Ke Huy Quan and Michelle Yeoh in the film where Quan’s character admits that maybe he is actually too sweet for his own good like Yeoh’s character’s father used to tell him. There is another scene in the movie where Quan’s character asks everyone to stop fighting as he claims that they are only doing so because they are confused and that they should be kind to each other.

This scene has a parallel to Skeleton Crew‘s episode 4. After Neel tries to convince Hayna to come with them so that they can live in a peaceful world, Hayna tells him that she cannot leave her people behind. However, she expresses hope that one day when she’s the leader of the Troik, she might recall her conversation with Neel and navigate a better way of living for them.

2022’s absurdist comedy film Everywhere Everything All at Once followed the story of a Chinese-American immigrant named Evelyn Quan Wang (Michelle Yeoh) who has to find the parallel universe versions of herself so that she can prevent a mighty being from destroying the world. Directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, also known as the directing pair ‘Daniels’, the film won 7 out of the 11 Academy Awards nominations.

Fast forward to this year, the Daniels have directed Skeleton Crew episode 4. In fact, this is their directorial effort since they won Best Director and Best Picture for the multiversal comedy. The directors left quite the mark on this episode with their absurdist comedy and some multiversal elements like the Ke Huy Quan-starrer feature.
