“So contagious it destroys the earth”: BTS ARMY Furious With Jimmy Kimmel After Show Host’s Racist Comments Compared K-Pop Idols With Global Pandemic
BTS is a world-renowned global K-Pop group that has continued to spread positive messages to the world through its music. Due to their goodwill and great music, they have won the hearts of many across the globe. While they enjoy the massive support of their fans, referred to as the ARMY, they also get immense hate from others. Though this hate has sometimes crossed the limits which were witnessed when a popular TV host connected the band to something unimaginable.

Early last year, the American TV host, Jimmy Kimmel was accused of sharing demeaning remarks towards BTS in his popular show, Jimmy Kimmel Live! In an episode with Emily In Paris star Ashley Park, he was accused of using the K-Pop group as his punchline by comparing the band to the global pandemic.
During the conversation with Park, she was excitedly talking about her favorite 7-member boy group and how she was shocked when she saw the members sharing her cover of their hit single, Dynamite. While she thought of it as just a strong physical reaction, she, later on, tested positive for Covid-19.
To that, the host replied by stating,
“You thought it was BTS fever. They’re both very dangerous; you’re lucky to come out of those alive.”
Not just this time, he shared another remark on the group by stating in his monologue,
“And they took pieces, and it popped up all over the world, until eventually we get to one that’s so contagious it destroys all life on earth.”
While it did not mention the group name in general, it was quite a direct blow to the group especially when he mentioned other pop groups in the music industry. ARMY got furious over his comments and gave him the taste of his own words.

Jimmy Kimmel has been a repeat offender with his racism and microaggression. It has been continuing for years because no one is calling him out. Last week, Billboard put the blame on Ashley for his racist remark against BTS. Now this twitter description🙄#JimmyKimmelRacist pic.twitter.com/jKzO2qRhXW

it’s upsetting because bts are constantly talking about Asian hate and being discriminated against due to being foreign acts and here we have jimmy kimmel making a racist remark on a talk show they’ve visited in the past. you really can’t trust anyone.

i’m not a bts fan but the fact that people, even TV hosts (*cough* jimmy kimmel) keep comparing them to covid as a punchline is extremely racist and xenophobic. i thought we left those disgusting comments in 2020

His incident also highlighted the previous racist comments he made in his entire career. It also brought forward his skit which seemingly suggested that America should “kill everyone in China” for which he eventually had to apologize in 2013. Meanwhile, the Yet to Come singers, are exploring their individual talents as members Jin and J-Hope will be performing their mandatory military service in the meantime.
