The Boys Season 4 ended with the tease of the return of Jensen Ackles. Ackles immediately became a fan favorite after Season 3 with his portrayal of the politically incorrect, uber-macho Soldier Boy, and the upcoming spin-off promises more of him.

The Boys’ Comic-Con panel was filled with stars, with cast members like Jack Quaid, Erin Moriarty, and Antony Starr in attendance. But it was Jensen Ackles who stole the show with his surprise appearance and a major announcement.

Ackles revealed that he will be starring in a new prequel series called Vought Rising. The show will be set in the 1950s and will explore the beginnings of the Vought Corporation and the dawn of the superhero age. According to Entertainment Weekly, Ackles said,

(The show) will be a lurid pulp prequel set in New York City at the dawn of the ‘50s about the humble beginnings of the Vought Corporation.

The announcement quickly won over fans on social media, as many were already rooting for the return of Soldier Boy. Cinemablend recently shared footage of Ackles announcing his return on Instagram, and fans expressed their excitement with comments like,

“Soldier Boy is BACK”

“Soldier boy and storm front amazinggggg”

“Happiest to see Jensen still being at top getting the recognition he deserves”

“Can’t get enough of soldier boy!!!! He’s an R rated version of Dean”

“That’s so awesome! Jensen is the man! He’s amazing in everything!”

The Boys’ showrunner Eric Kripke and Vought Rising’s showrunner Paul Grellong described the upcoming series as (via Deadline),

It’s a twisted murder mystery about the origins of Vought in the 1950s, the early exploits of Soldier Boy, and the diabolical maneuvers of a Supe known to fans as Stormfront, who was then going by the name Clara Vought.

Aya Cash who played Stormfront in The Boys, is also returning to reprise her role. In a video message, Cash expressed her excitement about working with Ackles and hinted that the series will feature everything from Judy Garland to Joe McCarthy.

What Will Be the Story of Vought Rising?

Vought International

Vought Rising won’t be just another spin-off. It will explore the fascist ideologies that fans have seen in The Boys. The series will focus on the roots of Vought International and show how the corporation’s Nazi origins shaped the superhero landscape in The Boys.

The show will mainly focus on Soldier Boy and Stormfront. Viewers will finally see Soldier Boy in his early days and get to know how he became the aggressive, cruel superhero that they saw in The Boys. As for Stormfront, the show will explore her days when she was going by the name of Clara Vought and what her role was in shaping Vought’s sinister agenda.

In the comics, Soldier Boy was a weak and scared superhero but the TV version is the father of Homelander. Vought Rising will most likely also explore the origin of Homelander and possibly reveal his mother as well.

As the plot is set in the 1950s, Vought Rising will most likely draw parallels between the rise of superheroes and real-world historical events and might offer commentary on everything from the Red Scare to the Civil Rights movement.

The Boys is now streaming on Prime Video.
