Some DC Fans Are Convinced James Gunn Has Found the New Wonder Woman After Gal Gadot’s Exit
At this point, it is no longer a secret that DC will get a reboot, thanks to DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran. Seeing as the past few movies (Blue Beetle, Shazam: The Fury of Gods, The Flash) have not been doing particularly well at the box office, this reboot is probably what the franchise needs to start afresh and charm the audience once again.
Along with the announcement of the reboot, it was slowly revealed that some of the actors who had been portraying some of the most favorite DC characters will no longer be doing so; one of these actors is Gal Gadot who used to portray Wonder Woman. A recent Instagram post by James Gunn has sparked speculations that the character will be portrayed by Eiza Gonzalez.
James Gunn’s DC Reboot Might See Eiza Gonzalez As Wonder Woman
Mexican actress Eiza Gonzalez has been in show business since she was 16 years old when she was cast as the lead female character Lola Valente in the 2007 movie Lola, érase una vez, directed by Pedro Damian. The movie was an Argentine remake of the teen telenovela Floricienta.
James Gunn is a devoted fan of the superhero genre, especially the DC comics. He recently celebrated ‘Wonder Woman Day’ by posting a piece of artwork in which Wonder Woman is seen covered in blood and ready to jump into battle. The artwork is by DC Comic artist David Finch, taken from a cover as part of the DC’s New 52 run from 2015.

As is tradition, the post sparked casting rumors, and the fact that actress Eiza Gonzalez commented, “This image is the one.” under Gunn’s Instagram post only added to the fan frenzy as fans have started to speculate if Gonzalez has been already cast as the superhero or if she has her eyes set on the role.
Gal Gadot Will Not Be Returning As Wonder Woman
Gal Gadot appeared as Wonder Woman for the first time in 2016 in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. She reprised the role in two more movies, namely Wonder Woman, Justice League, and Wonder Woman 1984. However, she will not be returning to the role as long as James Gunn is the CEO of DC Studios. Even so, there are chances that Gadot will be returning to DC as a different character.
In an X (formerly Twitter) post, Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins clarified the rumors surrounding the fact that she had parted ways from Warner Bros. She wrote:
“I never walked away. I was open to considering anything asked of me. It was my understanding there was nothing I could do to move anything forward at this time. DC is obviously buried in changes they are having to make, so I understand these decisions are difficult right now.”
After a significant amount of back and forth, it is now confirmed that Gal Gadot will not be returning as Wonder Woman any time soon. This opens the door for new actresses to star as the superhero. As of now, Eiza Gonzalez who is no stranger to the action and superhero genre is speculated to take over the role.
