Since the creators of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. had no idea how Thanos’ snap would be resolved in the MCU films, this caused serious continuity issues. They had to pretend that what they mentioned happened before the snap and dismiss it as a result. In the end, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was canceled by Marvel rather than ABC. The creative team concluded that they would like to finish the show on their terms rather than having it abruptly canceled. Additionally, they wanted to stay away from the continuity issues that had marred the later seasons.
