Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Producer Takes His Oscar Loss to Hayao Miyazaki Like a True Champ: “Might as well lose to the GOAT”

As the grand event continues, the Academy has announced legendary Japanese filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki as the winner of Best Animated Feature Film, defeating other acclaimed figures including Christopher Miller, the producer behind 2023’s most engaging film Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
While Miyazaki expressed gratitude for his second Oscar win, Miller also celebrated his defeat in a victories manner. The producer accepted his loss to The Boy and the Heron director and acknowledged him as GOAT.

The biggest night in the entertainment world is exciting fans around the globe, as the Academy announces the winners for various categories. Japan’s renowned and most influential filmmaker and animator Hayao Miyazaki takes home the Best Animated Feature Film for The Boy and the Heron.
The director’s animated film beat its top rivals in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Elemental, Nimona, and even Robot Dreams. Christopher Miller, the producer behind one of the highest-grossing animated films of 2023, accepts his defeat with pride, calling the winning director a “GOAT”.

Even Though Christopher Miller did not win the Oscar, he stays optimistic. Following the producer’s post, fans commend Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and the impact it left.
Hayao Miyazaki, the creator of the Oscar-winning animated film, became the oldest director nominated for the category and the oldest winner in more than two decades. His film was inspired by Genzaburō Yoshino’s 1937 novel How Do You Live? focusing on a young lad searching for his mother during the Second World War.
However, the iconic filmmaker couldn’t make it to the award night, as Marvel star Chris Hemsworth and actress Anya Taylor-Joy accepted the Oscar on Hayao Miyazaki’s behalf.
Hayao Miyazaki Made The Boy and the Heron After Declaring Intentions To Retire

Soon after Hayao Miyazaki shared his intention to retire from making iconic animated films, the director started crafting his Oscar-winning film. The director mentioned in his film’s press notes that his decision to retire was because of his age. According to ABC News, he wrote:
“There’s nothing more pathetic than telling the world you’ll retire because of your age, then making yet another comeback.”
Miyazaki also questioned that despite their talents and eagerness to create movies, elderly people have to retire. However, the filmmaker finally decided to work on The Boy and the Heron, and in an interview with The New York Times talked about his film where he mentioned having no answer as to why he chose to make the animated film.
